OK; who's in for this race. I just raced at Smithfield yesterday and I sure hope it's warmer for the half. I'd also like to think that the water may actually be in the 60's this year, but I'm ready with mu neoprene cap. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for this race; hopefully I'll get some good training in the next few weeks; anyone else??? :)

I'm going to be doing the Kinetic Sprint. I guess there is also a 1/2 distance. What's the Kinetic part of the name mean? I'm not sure that I'm ready I've had some knee soreness so I have laid off running for about 2 weeks. I'm going out today to try and complete all the event distances. I'll swim 750 at the YMCA pool then ride my bike 18 miles and then run 5K. I read alot about people doing training bricks (swim&run) or (bike&run) but I don't see much about people combining all three events in their training. Why is that? I plan to do one of these Practice Tris each week. Is that a bad idea?

I will be doing the half and feel like I am in pretty good shape for it, though my bike mileage is not as high as I would like.

Generally people dont combine all three because they dont have enought time and dont want to overtrain. If you have the time and training base to do it, then go for it! Though I would really watch your knee and make sure it is better before you try a long training day like that.

Good luck!! !

I'm doing the sprint, not the half. Have some friends that are doing the half, and WAS going to do the half as a relay with some gals (I was going to swim) but one of them had to drop out b/c of some back problems she was having, not to mention the fact that she is also planning a wedding in mid-May.

I'm in for the 1/2 as an early season training race.  Longest ride this season is only about 50 miles and I only have a couple of longer runs so far.  It'll be a good check on my fitness but I don't know that I'll actually be "racing" it.

Good luck to those doing the HIM.  There will be an obnoxious group of BTers on the course (those of us racing the sprint on Sunday) so be sure post your Bib #s so we know who to look for!

I'll be wearing a blue and white coastal racing tri suit. I think I'm the only gal from our club doing the half so I should be easy to spot.

Tough race yesterday.  The run course was definitely challenging and got pretty hot at times.  I think I heard some BT supporters out on the run course by the out and back.  Still waiting for the results to be posted for splits but I managed to hold on for 4th Elite/Overall but I've certainly had better feeling races.  I'll work on a race report as soon as the splits are posted.

Yes, you did. There were a bunch of us there; we were also cheering on Dan (DocSwim). Everyone else is doing the sprint today. I was going to, but it's been pouring rain since 7am and the roads are really wet and slick, and I'm just not a good enough cyclist. But I'm sure everyone else is having fun in the downpour.

I heard the conditions got crappy this morning.  I had 2 athletes planning to race the sprint but they both decided to bail out because of the rain.  Too bad it couldn't hold out through the morning.  I've already had 2 bad weather races this season...40 and sleet for VA DU and 50 and rain for Carrboro Classic DU.  Yesterday got a little warm on the run but otherwise it was a big improvement over the duathlons.

All I can say is, I felt hardcore during and after the sprint, given the weather. Once I was out of the water and not hyperventilating anymore, it was actually sort of fun!
