SETUP INC

Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 15m 1s
Overall Rank = 16/159
Age Group = F40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/18
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:00 and couldn't get back to sleep. Finally rolled out of bed at 5:45 and took a shower. Ate a bagel w/PB and drank some water. Stopped at Starbucks on the way to the race site. Got to race site around 7am, got TA setup and hung out with the BT/QCTC crowd. Drank a Boost about 1.25hrs before my start time.
Event warmup:

Hopped on a stationary bike at the Aquatic Center for about 15 minutes.
Swim
  • 07m 58s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty happy with this swim considering I was seeded wrong and started behind much slower swimmers. I got bunched up a couple of times but was able to pass without too much trouble. I missed a couple of flip turns b/c of bunching at the ends.

I've been working on my pacing a lot lately and it really paid off. I didn't go out too fast and I felt really strong at the end.

What would you do differently?:

Get seeded correctly.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Took time to put on socks and arm warmers. Thanks goodness!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 39m 13s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Was a little confused leaving the TA because they changed the course from last year and there was no one there directing traffic. Got to the bottom of the hill and finally saw some other racers so I knew I was on course. Legs felt really good from the get-go. I took a swig of Infinit at mile 4 and it came right back up. So, I decided not to drink anything else on the bike since it was such a short ride. Passed a lot of people and was only passed by 2 males. The wind really picked up on the last couple of miles and it started to sprinkle.
What would you do differently?:

Pay better attention to the course and not doubt myself.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

My fingers were so cold I almost couldn't get my helmet off.
What would you do differently?:

Put on a parka! ;)
Run
  • 25m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

My main goal for this race was to run a sub 26 5K. When I saw the first mile was sub 8-mins I was so excited! Even if it was pouring rain and hail!

This really is the worst run course on the circuit. It's bad enough on a sunny day but given the torrential downpour it was a disaster area. I had to slow down significantly just to keep from busting my butt.
What would you do differently?:

If I had been seeded correctly I would have been finished before the monsoon set in.
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish line and immediately started looking for a warm blanket! OMG, I was so cold. Found Keith (foots) and then headed back to the Aquatic Center to get warm!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather.

Event comments:

Overall very happy with this race especially since I won the entry and it was free!

Kudos to all the volunteers who braved the horrific weather conditions!

Great race Alice!  If you get a chance, go to Ralph's blog (1for1) he got a few really good pictures of you.  Sorry you got stuck in the monsoon.....but it makes for interesting stories, right??  LOL  Glad to see you there and it was really fun seeing you and getting the chance to catch up.  Congrats on the hardware, very well deserved.

Alice! - you rocked it girl!!!  I was watchin you in the swim and when you passed 4 swimmers in one length I was like "wow"...totally impressed and humbled me.  You earned that 3rd place girl!!  Way to go..it was great sharing my 1st tri with you and the other's from QCTC...could not have asked for a better group of folks to hang with and compete with in my initiation race....

Cheers!   Rusty!
