Sunny
Total Time = 1h 11m 14s
Overall Rank = 53/233
Age Group = W25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/8
Pre-race routine:

Got up. Got dressed. Ate my English muffin, peanut butter, honey, and banana. Drove to the race site. Tried to find a good song on the radio station the whole way there, but was not successful.
Event warmup:

Nothing. Set up my transition. Warmed up my mouth chatting.
Swim
  • 09m 21s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was kind of a brutal race start. So, rather than get in the mix of it, I slowed up a bit. I started drafting off that pack, and then realized that the pace was too slow. So, I swam around the group. I didn't really get to clear water until 2/3rds of the swim was done. My bad. I did ride a couple of the waves in. It was choppy out there.
What would you do differently?:

I will get in there next time. Then, I will relax and swim. I will not pound the water.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Nothin' much. It was busy. There was enough room to move around. It was actually a fun transition. Strange, I know.
Bike
  • 32m 32s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 21.21 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a fun ride. I was leap-frogging with a friend the entire time. We had a great time egging each other on. I think that I could have given it a little more, but not much.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

No complaints on this one. Tried to put on my socks, and then decided against it. Luckily, it didn't come back to haunt me.
What would you do differently?:

Don't even bother with the socks.
Run
  • 27m 56s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm proud of this run. I pushed myself. I'm not a runner by any stretch of the imagination. So, I kept repeating to myself throughout the run, "you can run...I'm going to run." I even mustered up the energy to sprint to the end, and tied with a girl who had passed me earlier.
What would you do differently?:

Smiled more?
Post race
Warm down:

Ate and talked. Stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think that I'm learning how to push myself more. I need to do that more in training.

Event comments:

This was a great, flat course. It was a fun way to start the season.

Way to go! Second in Age Group and sub 8 min miles.  You flew on the bike and had a great if "non-combative" swim.

 Rock on!

Yeah Nalani! You went home with some hardware!!!! I just notice you were super fast on your bike also! I think you will be in for more medals this season! But it is not why we do it!

 Right!

Sounds like a fun race, what is up with the start?

AWESOME JOB! Second place in your first race of the year! You rock! And I see a sub 8 min mile pace in there. Way to go! BTW, when you're scrappy, you don't need socks!

Right!

Right!  We do it for the oranges and bread at the finish line!  No clue with the start...hopefully, that's not some sort of foreshadowing for future races this season.
