Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 7-ish, had some toast with PB. Went to pick up the brother then headed out to the lake. We probably could have slept another half an hour.
Event warmup:

Wrestled on my wetsuit for the first time. Froze my feet, froze my hands, the dove in head first. I did about a 200 yd swim to get warmed up.

Comments:

First lap - ~17:00
Second lap - ~33:00
Right about what I expected.

On the first lap, I hung out by the first bouy for a while. Too many people makes me panic. Then I found a pace and cruised.

I felt a little dizzy after the first lap, but made myself do the second lap since I'd forced the brother to come out. (Imagine my surprise when I finished and found out he only did one!) After the second lap, I kept losing my balance until I got some water and food in me. That always seems to happen after my swims...takes a bit to gain my footing back.
What would you do differently?:

I need to do more OWS.
Post race
Warm down:

Made the .75 mile trek from the beach to the parking lot. Ate pancakes and sausage. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Feeling comfortable in the open water and with a lot of people.

Great pace with a nice even effort out there. (Looks like a small negative split)

This is a great distance to race especially early in the Tri Season

If you swim at this pace in an Oly (.93 Miles) your gonna have a great start. Seems like a nice warmup for your season.
