Transition is in the parking lot on the same side of the road as the bar. I think its maybe 100 to 150 yards from the shore.

Look forward to seeing u and keep up the good training.

The last time I did Mullet Man we swam in the river. Yesterday I ran into a frend who told me they swam the gulf last year. When did they move the swim? I'm a bit rusty. This will be my 1st Mullet Man since before Ivan & my 1st tri since Katrina.

They moved it after Ivan because of debris in Ole River and kept it in the gulf because most (not all), liked it better.

I will be getting there Friday morning. Does anyone know where there is a map of the course? The information on the website seems pretty self explanatory but I would like to see it visually as well. Also, does anyone know the water temp? I looked on the weather channels website and they said 70 degrees. Looks like wet suit time. Also, how are the waves? This is my first ocean swim so any information would be appreciated.

The race will defintely be wetsuit legal I don't think the air temp has been over 78 more than 5 imes this spring. My guess is the water temp is high 60's. I usually don't bother with wetsuit for 400 yards but dang it's cold out there.

The course is very straightforward.

Swim is in the gulf right in front of the bar. The direction of the swim is always with the current. It's usually out 50 across, 300, back 50. They are notorious for inaccurate swims but its usually short.

About a 100 yard run from the shore to the transition area.

From transition, you exit onto the beach road to the left. You go approximately 8.5 miles and then turn around and come back. There is a bridge at mile 2 and that same bridge at mile 15. The winds are always tough on the beach and you get some squirrely stuff between some of the big condo's. The winds are usually SE which means a headwind back but the current forecast has them from the west. If that holds, you get a tailride home, which would be nice.

The roads are not good right now and thats disappointing. There has been alot of construction going on and the bike lane is really not very useable. Thats okay cause we can ride in the right lane during the race. I wouldn't recommend riding the course before hand because of the road conditions. If you wanna ride on the baach to get a feel for the winds, go down to West Beach in Gulf Shores and ride to the west end and back.

Run is also to the left like the bike. You go out 2 miles, run under the bridge and back.

Hope that helps.

Ken

If you get a chance post your #'s so I can say hello. I ride a black p3 sl and will be wearing black shorts and a too tite red tri top.

Ken,
Look for to meeting up with you man. I don't know my race number yet, but I will be the one on the Blue Giant bicycle. There should not be too many out there. I hope the winds are like you say the forecast is going to be. That could make for good race. What are they talking as far as rain is concerned? I am worried that thunderstorm might hit that morning. Anyway, after a night of rain that water should be ready to wake everyone up!!!!!!!! Good luck to all

Gary,

The weather forecast is improving and if they are any good at predicting the showers should be gone by race time.

7am Partly Cloudy
63°F
63°F 10% 59°F 87% From NNW 10 mph

8am Partly Cloudy
64°F
64°F 10% 58°F 81% From NNW 9 mph

9am Sunny
65°F
65°F 10% 57°F 75% From NNW 9 mph

10am Sunny
66°F
66°F 20% 56°F 70% From NNW 9 mph

That NNW wind is a rarity here and I expect it will be a little squirlly between the pencils on the beach, but still better than the headwind we usually ride back into. The roads are really bad right now, from miles 4 to 6 going up the bike lane is under construction and on the way back there are gaps of bike lane missing. My advice is ride the whole race in the road.

I am thinking about the wetsuit for this one. Seems like a pain, but its gonna be cold the whole race.

This race was awesome!!

Ken, it was great to meet you.  You smoked that course.  Congrats man.  And Thank you for the heads up on staying out of the bike lanes.  They were littered with stuff.
