Is there an advantage to a type of lenses tint or is it just come down to personal prefernce (I get a free pair of prescription sunglass frame/lenses through my benefits). Should I get a fully dark lenses OR should I get a very light tint with the option of it getting darker in brighter sun light like "transition" lenses OR just light tint with no transition lenses?

My question came about because I was thinking about if too dark a lenses are not good for overcast conditions, things like this?

For me, the most important thing is getting polarized lenses. Light conditions vary, but with polarized lenses, you get the glare blocked ( which is really the important thing ). Polarized lenses cost more, but are worth it. Darker, non-polarized lenses block glare as well, but also block a lot of other light too ( they use the shotgun approach ). You can wear lighter lenses if they are polarized, which lets you wear them in a wider range of light conditions without sacrificing your ability to discern details.

My $0.02 anyway.

I agree, I have prescription sunnies for every day, but I hate training in them, particularilly on the bike.

I own a cheap pair of sunnies that are polorized, but only light tint. They are great. we get really sunny weather, which they are fine for, but on overcast days, I can also still wear them.

Unluss you really need the prescription, just as easy to go without prescription (as I do). Then if I loose them, I don't feel as bummed about it!

Thanks. I go in tomorrow and get to pick out the frame and lenses and will make sure they are "polarized."
