Comments: As I had not sufficiently trained for this race, I decided to just do it as a training run. I figured I'd run the first 4 miles comfortably, and then run the last 6 miles at marathon pace which will be 8:00 for me to qualify for Boston. Even though they started the race in waves, the first 4 miles were still really crowded; and even running at a comfortable pace (8:25 or so) I still did a lot of weaving through the crowd. At the 4 mile mark I turned it up a bit tried to run close to an 8:00 pace until the last mile, when I turned it up a bit more. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, this was just a training run. Post race
Warm down: It was chilly and raining, so I basically left immediately after the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Inconsistent training. Event comments: This was my second time running this race, the first time being in 2004. (I was also more than 4 minutes slower this year). I will probably run this again next year. Woke early and drove from my parents house to the Greenbelt metro station. My sister opted out of the race at the last minute due to illness and the cold rainy conditions, so I went solo. Had a cup of tea and a peanut butter sandwich. Got on the metro and Greenbelt and rode to the race, which was at the Smithsonian stop. The start and finish line was in the shadow of the Washington Monument.
The weather was chilly and wet, so there was no warm-up other than hitting the porta-potty.
