Comments: Started out hanging onto the second pack. Consciously kept the pace in check. The effort for the pace seemed about right and felt good. After the 1 mile marker I started to push the pace. For some reason the hr really shot up and stayed 185-190 for the remainder of the race. At the steep uphill section 1.5mi I passed the group I was hanging with and lost all but one. Mile 3 was tough. This was uphill and just tried to maintain pace. The turn around was right at 3 mile marker. Tanya caught me at the turn and asked that we take turns leading out to push the pace These last 2 miles were into a stiff headwind. I lead Tanya down the hill then let her go a bit when she took the lead. Didn’t have much left for a strong last mile. Got through the rollers and had a flat section for the last half mile but didn’t kick. Goal for this race was sub 34. way off target, but in retrospect this was very aggressive due to suffering from a significant cold this week and the race conditions. I’m please with the performance but a bit concerned about my upcoming half marathon. What would you do differently?: Not much. I started out on target but couldn’t hang on the uphill and couldn’t finish. I think my HR says I put out max effort for my condition. Post race

Light breakfast of toast and water. Got to the trailhead in plenty of time and registered.
Headed out for a light 20min jog with Scott. Back to the car to don the race gear. A few strides then to the start line.
