Overall Rank = /

Age Group Rank = 106/200
Swim
  • 18m 58s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

felt all right - either the swim was a little long or there was some current, even the pros weren't that fast considering stated distance. got caught up in people a few times, but eventually managed to find some pace
What would you do differently?:

be a little more aggressive in the beginning.
Transition 1
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

long-ish run up the beach, through showers, into transition. took my sweet time. this is just preparation for st. anthony's. long-ish run out with bike.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 34s
  • 19.25 miles
  • 18.17 mile/hr
Comments:

i took it easy on the hills, and just concentrated on a steady pace. felt pretty good, except for a little numbness in my toes getting off the bike.
What would you do differently?:

more hills, but i am not concerned right now - st. anthony's is flat.
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

again, took time through transition. my feet were cramping a bit off the bike.
Run
  • 40m 41s
  • 4 miles
  • 10m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

started off so well, probably too fast. i need to calm down a bit, but i'm glad i was feeling well. 1st mile was about 9:25, but i did a lot of slowing down after (obviously) and then i fell apart when i had to stop to tie my shoe (must get speedlaces). but overall? i want to run 10-10:30 miles at St. anthony's, so i'm on target for that.

also - finishing in the sand on the beach is just cruel.
What would you do differently?:

speedlaces. don't go out so fast.
Post race
Warm down:

a lot of walking around. went over to get some food, but then wasn't ready for it, and they ran out when i went back (while people were still racing).

hung out for awards, despite a mechanical problem on the bike rick finished 2nd in his age group / 6th overall. it was tight at the top too, without the mechanical he might have won.

Nice return to tri racing!  Looks like you should be ready to handle St. A's well.

Worth investing a few bucks in speedlaces or yankz though.

thanks, john. i took it easy and i'm pretty happy, in terms of using this race as a guide for st. anthony's.

rick though, is increasingly frustrated as he sees that he missed winning by about a minute and a half, which is quite possibly the time he lost because of his broken aerobars.
