Sunny
Total Time = 39m 45s
Overall Rank = 102/108
Age Group = 25-29 F
Age Group Rank = 8/8
Pre-race routine:

Woke up a little late after staying up a little late (hey! I was on vacation!). Got dressed in my spiffy running skirt (looking super cool), grabbed some breaky and headed for the car. Ate a bagel while driving to destination. Found race site (only had to turn around 2 times...) and got my packet.
Event warmup:

Walking back and forth to my car after getting my spiffy t-shirt.
Run
  • 39m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

This started out well, and pretty much kept going well for me. Just kept going steady. Slowed down a bit after the first mile, and walked the water stop, but other then that, ran the entire race (yay!) There was a lot of support around, volunteers at ever turn, people from the neighborhood out cheering. There were 2 other women that were doing their first 5k that were around me most of the time (they finished a little before I did, though...bah), and we kind of goaded each other on. Another lady that was behind me came up to me after the race and said she used me for inspiration...that was kind of cool. I do have to say the weather was quite a bit of a departure compared to what I've been used to, but it was nice to sweat.
Here are my splits:
Mile 1 12:00
Mile 2 13:16 (walked water stop)
Mile 3 13:05
.1 mile 1:24
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was awesome for me. I do need to run more so I can continue to get faster, though.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung around, ate good food (nice spread of fruit and such...no cookies or Krispie Kremes...yay!!)

Event comments:

This was a small, 2nd year event. There were just over 100 people (108, to be exact), but it was organized, and lots of people from the neighborhood came through to cheer on the racers, which was kind of cool. I don't think there were many stretches (there were lots of turns) that didn't have at least a couple people out there cheering. Saw lots of little people (read-kids) in their pjs...

Looks like you ran a nice consistent race and chopped a bunch of time off of your recent 5k time. Seems like your run training is working for you. (Looks like your old PB Time was ~42 Minutes)

Of course, running a 5k on vacation automatically gives you an extra bit of mojo anyway

I love running these small events. (Sounds like you had a lot of fun)

Hope you had a great vacation.

little kids? Come down, do Gasparilla.  You'll see a LOT of those on the course.  Little people, big people in pj's with coffee cups out on the course.  Especially on the Davis Island part.

It's cold today- 50 smething!

Great job! I bet you did look spiffy in that skirt, what, no pics?

Way to run the whole thing (water stops don't count, pffft)! I've never RUN a 5k!
