Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate breakfast, got dressed, grabbed my things, and then rode to the race start.
Event warmup:

Not really. Warmed up my mouth.
Swim
  • 07m 8s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 24s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a good swim for me. My goal was to get in there and swim, and to not be intimidated by the arms and legs swimming around me. I seeded myself in the front, and was really pleased with my swim. I was drifting off course a little bit at first, but the woman swimming beside me shepherded me back on course. Most of the way, it was a really "clean" swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

There's no time recorded for this. I think that it's included in the bike time. They made us jog down a bike path before we could get on our bikes. Interesting it was.
What would you do differently?:

I started to rinse off my feet, but then gave up and shoved me shoes on. I shouldn't have bothered as it just made things more muddy.

Comments:

I saw a guy totally eat it on his bike...he wasn't wearing a jersey. It looked so painful. He go up, walked off the course, and was screaming. We were stopping to check on him, but he kept on screaming...and by that point race officials were there. I hope he was okay. I spent most of the way back thinking about him.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, no time for this. I only managed to get one shoe off before I hopped off my bike. I was running with one shoe off and one shoe on. My family was cheering me on at the bike dismount, and I told them I felt like Cinderella.
What would you do differently?:

Un-channel my inner Cinderella when it comes to removing my bike shoes.
Run
  • 27m 49s
  • 3.7 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I love this run course. It's one I do regularly. I started the run out a bit slow, and then sped up when a woman (not doing the race) started cheering me on. It made me laugh. At that point, I did my best to find someone in front of me, and try to catch up. I didn't catch many of them, but it gave me a goal.

With about a mile left, a woman passed me. I watched her pass me, and marveled at her speed. A guy behind me (a race participant) decided to be the voice in my head. He calmly told me, "go get her, she's not that far ahead of you." I tried, but couldn't do it. A couple of minutes later he told me, "come on...there's just a little bit left in the race...go and catch her...push it". So, I tried again with no luck. But, I was pushing. He was so calm...he didn't even seem out of breath! At this point, the course turned into a beach run, and I sort of lost my momentum. He reminded me to turn my number around (I managed to utter a "thanks"), and he took off for the finish. I didn't get his number, and I didn't get a chance to see what he was wearing. So, I didn't get to thank him after the race.

I didn't catch the girl, but I was really proud of the effort...and really grateful for the push.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

I rinsed off in the beach showers, and found my family and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ability.

Event comments:

It was a good race. Well supported. I could have done without the beach end, though...it was beautiful, but it didn't feel very beautiful.

A podium finish!!! Sweet! The best part of your race is the run I think! Second over all is AWESOME. Glad to see you had fun, sucks about the bike crash, nothing takes the wind out of the sails like seeing something like that! Way to push on that run and finish so strong!!

Woah, narley crash, that would definitely shack me up. Well the sandy finish really kind of stinks too, I hope they don't do that again.  Cool that guy was pushing you.

2nd place in age group top 50! Go Girl!
