Hi everyone, I just thought I would start a thread for this.  This is my first Oly and I'm super excited about it.  Plus, I went to college in the area so it will be really nostalgic for me to go back - I went shopping at Quakerbridge mall all the time back in the day!

So, have any of you done this race before?  If I recall, it's usually HOT and HUMID in July in the area, which I'm somewhat apprehensive about.

Have fun with training!

Welcome back. Haven't done the race before but did go last year and believe it or not was high of 75 and no humidity last year. Doubt we'll be so lucky this year as typically very humid and around 90 that time of the year.

Signed up for the sprint though may change to Oly soon if my swimming keeps progressing.

I did the Olympic both years and am signed up for this year. It was fairly cool weather both years, but i think we were just lucky.

Looks like we have the making of a first-oly support group.  Its my first Oly as well.  Volunteered last year since members of my tri club (www.teamtriumphsnj.com) were doing both races.  Its a great venue for a race and really well run.   Both are reasons why I chose it as my first Oly over the Philly Oly.  Its a little more low-key than Philly.

Planning to get up there in June and early July to ride the bike course.  Anyone else interested?

It's a great race. I've done it the past 2 years. Unfortunately, I have a conflict this year, otherwise I'd be back. I wouldn't worry about hot and humid. Except for the fact that the water warms up enough so that wetsuits aren't allowed. (well, you can wear it, but you're not eligible for awards. I'd say about 5% wear them.?)

I know Race Directory Larry chimes in every so often.

I'm doing the Oly too, as my first Oly. I'll be doing the Philly sprint in June. I am pretty excited about it. I also joined Team Triumph (as noted in an earlier post) but have had scheduling issues with meeting and such. I'll be doing some of the OWS in Wenonah that CGI hosts.

This will be my third year doing the NJ Oly Tri. The event is well organized. The swim is decent (although the could use some more buoys), the bike is fairly flat (with some "technical" parts in parking lots) and the run is totally flat (and partially shaded). Overall a good race; be sure to get there early because the traffic and the transition area closes early (especially if you are in a later start group).

This will hopefully be my second Olympic. Philly will be my first. I haven't signed up yet for NJ because a hip injury has had me comletely sidelined for over 2 months. Swimming and very light biking only. Does the oly fill up? My long run so far this year post injury was just 3.7 mi. I want to be sure my hip will hold up to more base before committing to another oly. I really want to do that race!

Did it last year as my first (and only, so far) Oly. Very well organized. It wasn't hot or humid but I remember it was quite windy on some portions. The bike course had some very tight turns. Run was shaded first half, quite sunny the second.

The bike course is a little different this year. The two turnaround sections in the park are gone and you repeat the section that goes through the college..so Olympic athletes will do this portion twice (Sprint doesn't do that loop at all). We went through all 900 Olympic times and plotted where they would be on the course to determine if the second loop would be crowded and it worked out that as bikes come through for the second college loop the will encounter (on average) another bike from a later wave (or just a slower rider) about every hundred yards. The double loop portion is on Old Trenton Rd. (on which we have an entire closed off lane), through the college (which is essentially closed to traffic), Hughes Rd. (which has about a 12' shoulder) and the main park rd. (which is closed to traffic).

FYI...both distances are sold out.

Does it still take you out on Quakerbridge Rd? With the construction there it's tight with a car right now. I want to get out and ride the route this weekend.

I does use Quakerbridge. On race day we get one entire lane closed to traffic. This portion is a little hairy on a normal day...ok...it's quite scary when the lane isn't closed to traffic.

The race is sold out. Though it says there is a waiting list. I sent an e-mail to be on it two weeks ago. Does anyone know if there is a good chance i will get in the race or not? Or should I just register for the sprint event. Thanks Guys

I agree. This is the largest race, by threefold, that I have entered - ever. On one hand, the sheer number of competitors may increase the adrenaline and improve performance. On the other hand, the course may become quite crowded and possible hazardous.

This is my first A race of the year. Anxiously waiting for next Sunday.

Given how well the CGI organizes these races...I wouldnt worry about the course being too crowded (i.e., dangerous). It will be on-time, organized, controlled, and with tons of energy.

It should be fun! Good luck!

(and I will see everyone at the beer garden!!)

Any idea how to find out the water temperature? With this heat wave, I wonder if I should bother bringing my wet suit...

86 degrees at 11 am today...we'll take the temp at 6am on Sunday so I'd say under 84 is about 50/50...under 78 is about 99.99/.01.
