Pre-race routine:

Sit in traffic for 35 min wondering if I am going to make the start of the race.
Run
  • 34m 5s
  • 4.2 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Jogged from the parked car towards the start. Saw two grungy port-o-potties (not ones provided for the race) and dodged over to jetoson my coffee. Then blazed toward the start line to find Fitzy about 100ft back from the start, so I squeezed in with him. It was 2 minutes until the start!!! He had to go on and on about his goal of beating me this year! WTF? How could he not beat me? He is like a 5k wonderkind. He then pointed out that I beat him by 2 min last year. Well knowing my current abilities and his current abilities, I had no question that he would beat me. I was just trying to beat myself!!! Did it in 35 min last year, and thought that would be tough for me to beat. So The first mile of the run is all about jockying for position and trying to pass slow people. It stays pretty thick the whole run, though. I just dialed up my running music and ran. Kept checking my HR to make sure it was in the "GO!GO! GO!" zone, and just kept going. I really wasn't feeling this run, but gave it my all despite that fact. I beat my time, so I was happy.

Your running is so much stronger than it was this time last year.  Being healthy helps, of course, but you have also developed a lot of strength and SPEED.  Great job!!
