Pre-race routine:

Pre-race: setting up transition before anyone gets there is amazing! plenty of time/space to get things done before people are moving around and knocking into everything! today was a quick setup, as the race was short (400m/20k/5k) i was going with just helmet on the bike, no glasses, no top. so just the helmet, number and shoes in transition. After everything was set up i headed in to get in a quick swim warm-up and then sat through the pre-race meeting.
Event warmup:

4x100 easy swim.
Swim
  • 07m 56s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim time may have included the run to transition as my submitted time and actual time were close to 2 off each other. i put in 5:35 and came out where i should have but they are saying much slower
What would you do differently?:

swim more!
Transition 1
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

went quickly, fastest time here, nothing needed to change.
Bike
  • 34m 31s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.61 mile/hr
Comments:

great bike, i felt in control and smooth for the whole race. the first few miles were a little rough, trying to get my HR down from the swim, but the rest went well.

Course ave speed was low on account of the turns and hills, but i was steady over 25mph on a the straighter sections.

the results had two people on the bike ahead of me, one relay biker, and one women that appreantly went 2 min faster than i did (i think she made a wrong turn from what the race people said.)
What would you do differently?:

not much, the new position is working well, taking a bit of getting used to at the start as the front is a lot lower, but its getting more and more comfortable and fast.
Transition 2
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

quickly in and out with two other guys that came in with me, at this point i had moved from 49th after the swim to 3rd.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 18m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

For not having run more than 5 or 6 times this year due to a stress frac, this went very very well.
What would you do differently?:

run more!
Post race
Warm down:

15 min easy run about 30 min after the race ended, and then got a little food and went out to cheer the people still racing on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

being up for 36 hours and not running enough!

Excellent run.  Not sure I'll ever get down in that range again.

Obviously excellent bike too.

It looks like you'll be emphasizing the swim in your own training (although it was decent itself).

Great race! I was so bummed because I didn't get to do this race. I signed up for it and then got sick/injured back in Feb and was able to do any training at all until just about a week ago.

18:45 run! Holy S$#t!!!!! Not sure I will ever get down to that time for a 5k let alone one in a tri.

thanks!

i need to be swimming more (the 6k a week is not cutting it), but the bike/run are getting the most focus right now as i have a bunch of longer races coming up and need to be able to come off the bike feeling fresh and still have a decent time.
