I am not doing it this year (White Lake half instead). I did it last year and the year before. I expect the water will be fairly cold.

 I convinced my buddy to do it as his first tri as well.  Should be a fun race.  I read a lot of good things from past years and the SetUp Events always seem to be run well.  Hopefully the water isn't too cold but that's what wetsuits are for.

I think I'll be ok. The only thing I'm worried about are hills. Basically hills in general. I have no idea if what I consider a hill here in Arlington counts at all. And I hear there is one coming out of transition, is there anything special I need to do for that, in terms of running up it if I learn to keep my shoes clipped in at some point in the next week?
