Event warmup:

Sipped some Gatorade.
Hung out in building lobby with crowd.
Stretched a bit.

Comments:

Ick. Wind sucked out my energy and I had to use what I could to ensure that my soul didn't blow away. It was a yucky day for me.

Started a bit too fast in the excitement of the crowd and against the wind so right away my HR soared way to high. Slowed things down but was winded (lung-wise) the rest of the time. Walked the aid stations and every 'incline' to try to keep the HR in check.

At about 9k, my calf cramped up. Stopped to stretch. Kept on going but then true to form, my left quad started to compensate for the calf. Walked. Ran. Limped. At the start of the third loop, I had enough and called it a day. The weather was tough and mentally I couldn't muddle through.

10°C, SE 50km/h(gust 67), Hum 58%, Cloudy
What would you do differently?:

Not do roller derby the night before.
Stretch more.
Eat better the day before.
Have a gel instead of relying on aid station Gatorade.

Post race
Warm down:

Walked to car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

20+ extra pounds of body weight 'cargo'.

Tough race for you!

Good lessons to learn about nutrition and also mixing running with roller-derby!

I hope your recovery goes well.

Tough day! But smart woman - knowing when to call it quits. You and Bopper always told me that's the mark of a true athlete, knowing when your body/mind has had enough. Good job!

DNF is still better than DNS. Great job getting out there and still getting a run in. There will be better days.

I'm still fighting my cargo too ... onwards, my friend.
