Subject: My new bike needs a name

I finally got my new ride.  It is a 2005 Cannondale Ironman 800.  I ordered it 7 weeks ago,  Dura Ace components were on backorder, then they sent the wrong size, then UPS was late because of the holidays...  It's been a very big lesson in patience.    I learned I don't have any!!   I've determined from all this that the bike must be of the male gender, and therefore needs an appropriate name.    What name do you think??

Sweet ride Wendi. I got an Ironman 600 this summer. Almost the same exact color, and everyone knows that BLUE is the fastest color . How about Blue Lightening?

PS: Make sure when you get replace tubes, you get the extra long valve stems due to the deep V groove rims (I learned this the hard way)

It would have been better had you given us a hint as to what your passions are, history, politics, geology, ancient literature, or whatever.  But here are a few names, just for the heck of it:

Amadeus (Mozart), musical

Alexander (the Great), a conqueror

Durace (Djure-ass), a Klingon

Plato, a philosopher

Merc (short for Mercury), god of speed

John, Paul, George, or Ringo (the Beatles), pop name

I like Amadeus.  As for my passions, Gator football, my family, and work.  I had a minor in music at UF and enjoy most forms of music.

Pretty sure this suggestion isn't an option, but thanks!!! I had a bad experience at LSU, and the emotional scars are too raw!! (sniff, sniff)

Cool for you! I just got a closeout 2003 model Cannondale Ironman (lucky for me—sweeeeet deep discount) and pick it up this week. I like the Mozart allusion, but those multisyllabic names are hard to peel out when you're out of breath. So, I'm going for Alex (short for Alexander...of "the great" fame.) Congratulations!

Emmit was actually one I considered. I knew him his freshman year at UF. If only I'd a known then what his potential was, I'd a been a whole lot nicer to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've named all of my bikes after women I've [known], based on how the bike/woman's personalities match. For instance.

  1. Jody - My 1986 Cannondale. Big, strong tubing, and a stiff saddle. Very unforgiving. Not good for the long haul. But very exciting for short periods of time.
  2. Amy - My 2000 Klein mountainbike. Twin sister of Jody... same color scheme, same oversided tubing as Jody. But a bit more laid back. Much more adaptable.
  3. Debra - My 2003 Softride Classic TT - Nice lines. Very plush. The kind of lady I could spend a lot of time with. But still a bit quirky. Definitely built for the long haul. (Debra is actually Debra from "Everybody Loves Raymond", not a "real" woman :-))
  4. Gracie - My 2004 Specialized Langster fixed gear bike - Gracie is a friend's dog (the dog is fixed, the bike is fixed... get it?)
  5. [unnamed] - My 2001 KHS dual suspension mountainbike. The bike still hasn't found a name yet. I've [known] two women who's personalities are similar, but not similar enough to justify having a bike named after them.

My girlfriend thinks it is a bit weird that I talk about my bikes having the same characteristics as women I've [known].

Hrrmmm... She might be right :-).

Anyway, I think you have to let the bike tell you what it wants to be named. Perhaps "Fred", because bikes with reflectors are for nerds? :-).

Alright, already.  The reflectors are off!!  I didn't even notice that they were on there,  until I started getting comments about them.

I don't think my husband would think to kindly of naming the bike after the ex's in my life.  Plus, they are ex's for a reason--none of them are good enough to have MY bike bear their name.  :-

Well, when I looked at it with the ocean-like graphics the first thing I though of was "Seabiscuit", and then I looked at your location and that sealed it.

Don't let outside influences force you to name it "Gator", especially when "UGA" is much better!!!!!!!!!(gooooooooooooooo dawgs!) just kidding. Try not to run me over if you see me on the road.
