Subject: BT IM WI training camp - schedule planning input

Hard to believe that April is flying by so fast.  That means we need to start doing some planning for the upcoming IM WI training camp, June 6-8 in Madison.  I outlined a general schedule in my original training camp announcement.  Now we need to start finalizing a daily schedule.  I've tried to put this all in one poll to get a feel for people's desires.  My first attempt at using a poll thread, so hope it works.

I am willing to organize a preview of the transition areas (T area in poll) and need to get a feel for who/how many are interested.  It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and we can do a morning and afternoon preview if there is interest in both.  Not enough room in the poll to figure out exact time of these just yet.

I'm also willing to organize a preview drive of the entire bike course sometime Friday.  The bike course has TONS of turns on it and doing a drive-thru the night before might be a huge help to you to get ready for Saturday's bike ride.

I have allowed multivoting, but please limit yourself to one vote within each category (e.g. vote only one time slot for the Friday swim).   We will base the final schedule on the time slots receiving the most votes in each category.   If you have suggestions on other topics we need to seek input on just insert a comment in this thread and we can do additional polling if necessary.  This is going to be a kick azz weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am completely stoked for this weekend and can't tell you how much I appreciate you getting this organized.  I plan on participating in everything I can.  Will be down as soon as possible on Friday.  Unfortunately that looks like it will probably be around 5:00 or so.

Awesome.  As for me, Id like to swim long on Friday around noon-ish and do a run or bike after that.  Saturday Id like to ride the whole course then brick it after.  Long run sunday to top it off and possibly another swim???

Yup, I cant wait either.  Im still unsure where to book a hotel right now. Should all all try to get in at one place???? Maybe we could get a group discount or something?

I voted the following.....

Friday: 3pm Swim.  Run afterwards.  Tour T1 evening.  Beer!
Saturday: 2-40m loops w/run .  Beer!
Sunday: 6 AM Run.  Brunch afterwards.

I voted 3pm Swim because I have a 7+ hour drive on Friday morn.  I can swim earlier if that's what's decided, I'll just have to start driving earlier (3-4 AM).

I race IMKS 70.3 the following weekend so I may only ride one loop.  I assume we don't need to ride the finger into town.  The 40-m loop is what I'm looking forward to.

Thanks again Birkie for putting all this together.  I am stoked!

Clarification on bike course...explained in my original thread also....we WILL be doing the ENTIRE bike course.   We'll meet in Verona at Firemans Park and then do the course backwards into Madison on the stick/finger part of the course (you'll be doing this part of the course in this same direction during the actual race when you return from the 40 mile loop and head back to Madison).

We'll then head from the Madison start area back to Verona on the bike course and this will be equivalent to the way you will do the course at the start of the bike leg on race day.  So, we're just flip-flopping the first and last segments of the course that goes out to the 40 mile loop.  Going back out to Verona will work out good because we can make a pit stop at our vehicles at Firemans Park.  Then people will have the option of doing either one or two laps of the 40 mile loop after that.

My reasoning for using Firemans Park in Verona as a launching pad is because parking is free and ample, and we don't have to fight for looking for a group parking place in downtown Madison.

Sounds good to me.  In this case I'll only be doing ONE lap of the 40m loop.

same boat here, as firstnet911 and i are also doing kansas 70.3 so il probly just stick to one loop, we'll see though...i might be convinced otherwise

Probably the ONLY thing I won't do is a 6:00 a.m. start.

Everything else I'm planning for.

Stoked isn't the word for that weekend.

How's everybody doing?  It's looking good for me making this weekend.  I'll be fresh off getting married the Saturday prior and a mini-honeymoon for a couple days.  We're saving the real honeymoon for winter so as of right now I'm in for the training weekend!  This will be sort of a peaking weekend for High Cliff for me.

Hey, Birk-Birk!  If you want, I can volunteer as the marshall for the slower training group, ya know, when you, yams, and Peter (and some others) go off in your better than average paces, I can bring all the other not as quick group.

I think at this point in the game most of us are used to 6:00 AM workouts.

What about the traffic circle in Mt. Horeb?  there is tons of street parking and a gas station in case folks need to buy stuff before or after.  There's no close place (within walking distance) to buy stuff at Fireman's park.

(just a suggestion

My wife and kids are coming so we are staying at the Holiday Inn west of Madison.  It has what looks to be a pretty nice water park.  Figured the kids would want something fun to do while we were there.

It was me.  I'm sorry, I didn't thoroughly read the tread that said we will be doing the ENTIRE course from Madison.  If that's the case, then I'll only be doing two 40 mile loops.

I wanted to just ensure I got 115-120mi in that day.
