Has anyone been up to Walden Pond yet? Any word on the temperature?

The black line in my pool is mocking me and I've had enough.

I was there for a run, and gingerly stood in the water. It is still pretty cold, I wouldn't do it, but I don't have a wetsuit. Some of the heartier souls might be in.

Didn't see any swimmers last Sunday.

I tried to swim in Hopkinton last Saturday and it was WAY too cold . I had my wet suit on but keeping my face in the water was too difficult. I plan to try again this weekend if the temps stay warm.

I know the bodies of water are very different, but I was swimming in Silver Lake in Wilminton on Sat. The water temp was 58. Used a sleevless and 2 latex caps since I do not own a full suit or neopren hoodie. For what it is worth, throw a pool thermometer on a long sting out into the lake and check it out.  58 takes about 2 minutes to get your breathing ok and full face in the water, after that, it is not bad.

Walden warms up slowly as it is really deep. The pond Cranberry Tri is at warms up much faster as it is shallow.

I'm doing an ows tri this Sunday in NJ...I heard it is in the 60's. Wish I had done an ows other than in Cozumel this year. I will swim the day of packet pick up.

I am not sure but I am going to venture down there on a week or two. I'll post if anyone wants to join. Also once I am cleared to get back to cycling (in a week or two) I'll start s/b/r every weekend at Walden, let's see if we can get a good group as we did last year!

Just went today with my kids - I wore my wetsuit, booties and gloves - lost my neoprene cap so just wore a silicone one and it was ok on the edges - as you head towards the center it was a bit chilly....I also forgot my goggles in the car and had to shut my eyes because my eyeballs were cold!!!

When I bought my season pass they said it was in the 50s....

but I plan to make it a regular thing now....SO much nicer than chlorine!!!!!

anyone know what distance it is across the pond? around the pond? yeah I know I can google it, but figured you all would know already!

Cat, I did a google earth track across the pond, as well as timed myself across and back to the farthest point, and it's darn close to a 1/2 Ironman distance, so I would guess about 0.6 miles each way.  Might be just a shade shorter, but not a lot.  My Walden swims and my 1/2 IM swims are within a minute or two of each other.

I'm doing ows tri Sunday in NJ. I'm hoping water will be okay. I get a little panicky when the water is in the mid 50's. 60's I'm pretty good.

I've swam in the Hopkinton location that the tri will be quite a few times last summer. If it is the lower below the damn pond it is cool as the water is really deep. The upper water is warmer. Not sure which one is the location of the swim.

Map shows upper(northern) part of the water.  Also says to expect water temp to be 65.  We'll see.

I swam in Hopkinton today and it was great! When I was there last weekend it was too cold , but with this weeks warm temps it was definately in the mid 60's. I swam across the lake and back twice. I plan to go again tommorow before the weather gets cold again.
