Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 8:15, ate some oatmeal, finally made up my mind to do this race - it was to start at 10. Today I had a 2 hr training run scheduled. I figured I could just go do this course twice, though I knew I would end up pushing a little more than I maybe should the first 10k. Barely found it by 9:45 when registration was to end, but there was still a line, so I was fine. Got registered. Decided to not carry much with me on the run - went back to car with most of what I had + tshirt - I hate running with a bunch of crap!
Event warmup:

Ran to the bathroom, used the bathroom, ran back to the starting area. A couple quick stretches, then tried to stay warm!
Run
  • 52m 45s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

I passed quite a few people in the first mile, and was passed by 2 or 3. After the first mile no one passed me. I followed 2 girls for the last 4 miles - this helped me stick to a good pace.

Overall, I am thrilled with this pace over 6.2 miles! Just shows me I push a LOT more when I have others to compete with or run with. I feel much better running outside too, than on a TM.
What would you do differently?:

Dress cooler. I had my tri tank (for the pockets), a body armour type long sleeve shirt on, then a very light long sleeve tech shirt. The body armour type shirt got way too hot. I had terrible heat rash on my wrists.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a glass of water. Went to the car and removed the body armour layer. Tried an orange hammer gel. I get a little gag reflex from the gels, but I've gotta find something that works for during the HIM. I had 1/2 muffin and another glass of water. Used the restroom. Tried to wait for raffle, but really needed to get back to my run, besides I was freezing by this point! Started lap 2!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My fear of passing the 2 I was pacing off of, then not being able to hold the pace. I believe I could have passed them at several points, when I was feeling good enough to push a little more, then finish a little faster, but who knows?

Event comments:

The only drink station was just before mile 5 and was not very convenient to use.
