Overall Rank = ?/350
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 20/48
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4 am and drank some coffee. Stomach was feeling nasty. I should of taken some malox or something.
Event warmup:

Slid into the wetsuit and chatted with the wife.
Swim
  • 13m 44s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam the freestyle the whole way! This was by far my best swim. I was a little out of wack for the first 100 yds, but then I settled down and had an easy swim.
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front. I waited for about 30 seconds before I started swimming.
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

I felt like I was slow, but my time was pretty good considering I had a wetsuit on.
What would you do differently?:

Get organized pre race.
Bike
  • 34m 12s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 19.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Wow. My bike fitness blows. I spent the winter doing long slow runs and swimming and I felt it on the bike. I was 2 mph below my normal average and I was spent when I got off the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train more on the bike.

Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

I wiped out at the dismount line. The guy in front of me jumped off his bike and slid on his cleats. This caused one of the volunteers to reach out and grab me because they thought I was going to run him over. Next time I won't lock up the front brake when I see an arm reach out and grab me.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down more for the dismount line. saving 2.3 seconds isn't worth the face plant.
Run
  • 23m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

This was an ok run. I don't have my fast gear right now and I think I need to do more hills and speed work.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I knew I wasn't going to be fast here.
Post race
Warm down:

Cheered on fellow racers and enjoyed a beautiful day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. I've spent the winter working on things that didn't translate to a sprint, but they will for longer races.

Event comments:

This is a nice race that is run well.

Your T1 still beat me by like 30 seconds and I skipped the wetsuit to save time!

Awesome race! You averaged over 19 mph on the bike on a hilly course and you need to train more?? Sounds like that a pretty decent average for a race. I see many good races in your future....

Yikes!  I'm glad you didn't get hurt with the wipeout.  Congratulations on swimming freestyle the whole way, that's definitely a confidence booster for your season and your bike and run splits look great to me!  Nice job out there.

Great race! Thanks again for helping me find that extra burst of speed I didn't know I had. I really needed that!
