Pre-race routine:

I got up after a good night of sleep and really trying to kill myself the day before moving compost around the yard, I got up, had some fruit, then had a bagel on the way to the race.
Event warmup:

Walked to the race from the truck, got my number and had milled around a bit. Went to the shortest pee box lines ever! Was awesome! Stood around with my wife and a few others. I then got ready to run.

Comments:

I felt great until the big hill. My first mile felt a bit fast and I looked at my watch and felt like I was off my race plan. I kept trying to dial it back a little, but found that i just seemed to keep going faster than planned and felt good. Around the 3rd mile, I felt my legs from moving the compost and other crap the day before. I powered up a good hill on mile 4 and then hit a huge downhill. I realized I was flying down the hill and tried to slow down a bit. It was the only mistake I made of the day. I locked my left leg and felt it reverberate all the way upto a spot in my back that has given my problems. Once i shook that off, I took the big hill in stride and powered past a bunch of people. Only a couple of people passed me from that point on. As I came to the final bit, I tried to kick the pace and really didn't have the legs. I backed off and then kicked it for the last 200 yards.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Felt great and PR'd.

Course: The course was much more hilly than I thought it woudl be, why did I think that, I don't know as the race said rolling hills. There was a huge hill at mile 5, or at least I felt it was huge, and there were a bunch of rollers that were fun. Except for a couple, it seemed like whenver there was a hard uphill, at just about the right time was a down hill. I tried to attack the downs, and just keep a very good pace on the uphills.

You know, sometimes I found downhill more difficult to deal with, especially a long one.  It's harder on your legs.

Congrats on your great pace.  Sub 9 min!!!  Whoohoo.
