Tri the Parks Triathlon Race Series
60F / 16C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 10m 40s
Overall Rank = 66/328
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/13
Pre-race routine:

Arrive 45 minutes early and set up transition.
Event warmup:

Swim to first buoy and back. Warm-up in wetsuit.
Swim
  • 10m 47s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim start felt very good. I am pretty sure there were some current college swimmers in my wave since this was 20-29 males so I got in right behind them. They pulled away pretty quickly, but the rest of the group trailed back a good bit, so I had a smooth lane in the lake to myself. Stayed that way the rest of the swim. Had trouble sighting the buoy after the first turn since there was no big buoy to spot. Other than that, enjoyed the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Swim further into the shore. Lost a couple seconds trying to walk in water that was too deep.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Insoles kept slipping down with wet feet. Worried about getting blisters so I readjusted a couple of times. Lost a good bit on this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Run down the right corridor and try to not act like I was drunk running in. I felt like I was a little out of it coming out of the water.
Bike
  • 34m 2s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 19.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a really hard time taking the turns at full speed since I was trying to stay in the righthand lane. Would have rather gone over the double yellow a little when lane was clear to keep speed up. May just need to work on the technical skills a little more.
What would you do differently?:

Cornering
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Right shoe popped off pedal when jumping off bike. Somebody behind me had to grab my shoe and run it to me. Probably ran a little slower than I could have because I was worried about if I should go pickup my shoe.
What would you do differently?:

Not lose my shoe.
Run
  • 22m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt like I was going to puke, but didn't. Perfect! :-)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

BBQ on the way to Camden, SC for a wedding.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much. Just need to keep up the training.

Great race Kirk! You are going to be wicked fast soon! I promise not to make fun of the fact that your wife beat you on the bike (I probably shouldn't have said that in a public forum.... )

AWESOME race - even if I did beat you on the bike. I'm sure the fact that my bike is probably 5 pounds lighter than yours (and a tri bike) had nothing to do with it!

K: Great seeing you last weekend. Awesome job on the finish. Important safety tip - double knot those tri shoes.

Uh oh, you're in trouble, Kraig is still making fun of me for beating me on the swim at SC.  Just make sure you beat her on the bike next time!  Great race, you looked awesome on the run, I was wishing I could have that speed when you passed me.  I fully expect a complete race schedule to be posted by the end of this week.

Nice race. Good splits across the board. Cool that you got some hardware. At St. A's this weekend, I was cornering at 15, 18 mph.. with 10 other riders taking the same turn at close to the same time. A little trust in other riders and confidence in yourself, and the cornering will come.
