Tri the Parks Triathlon Race Series
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 15m 56s
Overall Rank = 121/328
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 8/15
Pre-race routine:

PBH Waffle, Green Tea, drive to race start. 5 hour energy about 20 minutes before the start.
Event warmup:

Short swim in the wetsuit to try to warm up a little.
Swim
  • 13m 16s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Okay - so I'm not so good at the swim. I felt like I was really working hard, but based on my pace it was much slower than I expected. On the bright side, at least it was over in 600 meters. :)

Overall - 130/328
AG - 11/15
What would you do differently?:

I need to swim more, I know. I just wish I enjoyed it more.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Overall - 16/328
AG - 1/15

I kind of feel like I "cheated" here, I take my wetsuit off as soon as I get out of the water, so that's why my time is what it is. It took me longer than it should have to get my shoes on and unrack my bike. I did a decent job running with the bike out of transition, but I would like this closer to 45sec
What would you do differently?:

Focus more
Bike
  • 33m 8s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 20.28 mile/hr
Comments:

What can I say, I killed this bike course. I played leapfrog with one girl in my age group for most of the ride. Honestly, I really wanted to hold over 20mph on the ride more than any other goal - so I was pretty psyched to meet this goal!! :)

Overall - 73/328
AG - 1/15
What would you do differently?:

Nothing that I can think of.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Overall - 164/328
AG - 11/15

Coming into transition, I went down the far left aisle and really had to dodge a lot of junk (wetsuits, goggles, everything, everywhere). I should have gone down the middle aisle until I passed the halfway point, which means I should have planned out my transitions better. Also had trouble balancing while pulling on my socks.
What would you do differently?:

Practice here could save some more time - under 45sec here would be nice too.
Run
  • 27m 23s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where my race fell apart. My plan was to take off on the run and see what happened, but from the start my stomach had a knot in it. I tried to push through and ignore it, but I had to stop and walk a lot during the first mile (which made me very surprised when I still hit 9:05 for the first mile). It was so uncomfortable, that running downhill (usually my strength) was miserable! I barely moved forward downhill, trying to minimize the bouncing. Fortunately, a little after the turnaround, it started to get more tolerable and I was able to actually start running again.

I saw Courtney in front of me again after the water station, so I trying to focus on her and trying to catch her - which I couldn't do! :)

Overall - 202/328
AG - 13/15
What would you do differently?:

My stomach has been out-of-wack all weekend, so I don't think this had anything to do with the race. I'll go back to no dairy for a week leading up to the race, to see if that helps.
Post race
Warm down:

After the finish, Courtney was kind enough to sit with me and let me catch my breath. Just did some stretching and then went to find everyone cheering on the rest of the finishers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stomach pain on the run.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this course - nice mix of flats and hills on the bike, pretty course on the run. I think this will be on my schedule again next year - good season opener alternative to St As.

Great race Heather - I TOLD you that you rocked that bike course.  You totally had me blasting out of T2 because I knew you were right behind me off that bike!

Gulf Coast is going to be great race for you!

SOunds like you had a great race, except for the tummy issues. Remember this was a B or C race for you to tune up. Glad you worked all the kinks out for this one to get ready for your A races.

Look at you torching the bike!!!!! I am really happy to see you doing so well on the bike and run this year. You really need to trash talk Kirk about beating him on the bike.

Way to go, Heather! You totally ROCKED this race and it was only a C race. Sorry about the stomach issues but you still had a good run split. You're gonna do great at Gulf Coast!

Girl..you smoked that bike!! Awesome job for sure! As for the run, I feel your pain BUT also, last year this would have been an awesome run for you..so take that away from it and just move on. Your next run will be that much better. You had a great race. Nice work.

Awesome race, and I don't even need to bring up that bike split. Fantastic. Look at all that training pay off! Keep up the great racing.

it's not the B12's that rock.. it's the riders!  .. even though yes, B12's rock in and of themselves.
