Overall Rank = 144/175
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 20/23
Swim
  • 21m 58s
  • 656 yards
  • 03m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started off feeling pretty good for 200 yds and then....I felt claustrophobic and I panicked. severe breathing problems. HR high. Couldn't relax. goggles fogging. Only second time out in wet-suit, and felt really restrictive in lung capacity. Rolled on back and try to relax. Starting to rain during swim. Started in free style, breast stroke, back stroke, doggy paddle? Dead mans float? If the Kayak was closer I swear I was going home early, but I kept going and slowly got past the buoys.
What would you do differently?:

practice more with the wet-suit and generally more swim practice.
Transition 1
  • 04m 54s
Comments:

before exit of swim, approx 40 yards of mucky bottom trying to swim/run/walk to get to the exit. after exit it is an uphill run to the transition area. along the run is grass, asphalt and oh yes small thorny things in the grass. spent a few minutes in T1 just removing thorns from bottom of my feet. Yes still raining
What would you do differently?:

run up the hill, and leave some shoes at swim exit so not to get those thorny things in my feet
Bike
  • 55m 4s
  • 14.01 miles
  • 15.26 mile/hr
Comments:

freaking hills!!!! argh. It rained the entire time. I mean keep your head down because you can't see anyway....hard rain. Feet are soaking wet. Damn chain popped off from big ring to small ring not once but twice! So, it rained hard, had to push my bike up the hill, and fix the chain twice.
What would you do differently?:

stay in the seat and climb the hills and not pop the chain twice!? Can't do much about the rain
Transition 2
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Since it was raining, my entire transition area is soaked. shoes, towells, socks everything. I actually had an extra pair of socks that were slightly wet but not soaked, so I changed socks too!
What would you do differently?:

If I think there is a chance of rain...cover transition with a plastic/raincoat or something to keep it dry
Run
  • 34m 34s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Running in the rain with shoes that go "Squish" "Squish"!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I ran about what I normally run.
Post race
Warm down:

it was raining!!!!!! I was cold and wet! There was no need to warm down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I did not bring my "A" game. I felt week the last few days. Training schedule for the last few weeks was slack too. So I got what I put into it. Except for the swim, I am not a great swimmer, but I can do better. I panicked with breathing. I probably should not have used the wetsuit since I did not train in it, but I wanted to have buoyancy and warm.

Event comments:

Small event but only second year and has grown since the first year. Lots of really strong tri-people. Saw some really awesome bikes.
