Sunny
Total Time = 1h 26m 26s
Overall Rank = 90/256
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 17/35
Pre-race routine:

Checked in, set up transition, scouted T1 & T2 entry and exit. relaxed until time for warmup
Event warmup:

15 minutes of running, head to water for 20 minutes of easy swimming with some sprints at end.
Swim
  • 10m 59s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought my swim was faster. But overal a good swim, considering a bad shoulder and my history. I was in control and my sighting seemed good, but for some reason I ended up 50' South of the pack. But I never lost sight of buoys or noticed off course. Hard to say. AS I neared the bouy I strted getting back in the mixer so I know I wasn't too off. I never lost contact, became breathless or lost composure. Considering the limited swim training I've done, this was very good.
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder, I need to learn what fast feels like in open water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Wetsuit totally stuck on legs! The rest of T1 went smoothly. I really gotta get some Tri shoes. Lost 30 seconds putting on shoes and trotting out of T1. Finding bike and mounting was great.
What would you do differently?:

Different bike shoes would've sped up T1 but not really impacted my placement.
Bike
  • 46m 45s
  • 14.91 miles
  • 19.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Very hot and dry. Perspiration intsantly evaporated. Dry mouth and and lack of sweat made it seem like I wasn't drinking enough. But, I drank 1.5 liters on bike. I tried to keep effort high, but not blow up on climbs. My focus, management of HR and bike handling all felt good. Except some unmarked areas caused me to lose focus to scan the course for turns.
What would you do differently?:

I think my weakness is power on the bike. That can be adressed in training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Had trouble racking bike. But not too bad. Wife and daughter waiting for me in T2. What a treat. Lost 5 seconds kissing them, but worth it :)
Shoes on, no socks and out I went.
What would you do differently?:

More smoochies!
Run
  • 24m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Some times missing leader's runs and T2s, so it is likely my AG split is more like 5th through 10th.
Run very hot. On a downhill section upper left hammy felt like it wanted to cramp. Up and down nature of course made getting fast rhythm hard, but it was hard for everyone.
Water only at aid staions but at least it was cold.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster ;) I may have been able to go a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Dumped lots of water over head

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, lack of swim training.

Event comments:

Smaller venue kept things under control. Some of the registration staff seemed cluless which led to me being assigned to wrong wave. Staff corrected my time w/o hassle which was great. Thanks guys.

excellent race, even more so considering how tough the winter has been for you with regard to training.
