Pre-race routine:

Up early and walked to Transition. Set up the stuff and walked back to the room and took a nap for 20 minutes
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 29m 3s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

A bad chest cold had me struggling for air. It seemed difficult to fill my lungs.
What would you do differently?:

Take some hits of Albuterol from Borinator.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

At the exit ladder I ran into a cache of people waiting until they got this guy with really bad cramps out of the water. I straddled the handrail for about 20 seconds or so until the mass got out.

I would LOVE to blame my shitty time on this extraordinary event- but fact is that I enjoyed the little rest.

Comments:

A great ride on JoJo.... From the gate I felt good and strong and the Seven Gods were on board. I hammered with a smile from Fphucken ear to ear at a blistering 25 to 26 on all straights.....

Have no fear... for I am HeBori.......
What would you do differently?:

make absolutely certain that they paint my frame the right color next time. BUT- it's growing on me........
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

So. I blew by my shit in Transition after being cornfused with the vast amounts of stuff there. A bit of a rookie mistake but I usually sit in transition and get bearings the day before and the morning of....... This time I just dumped my shit on the floor, You could tell by my results.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a baloon for bike I.D.
Run
  • 48m 40s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

The moment I had been waiting for..... the run.

As soon as I got off the bike I short stepped it all the way out of T2 and felt OK... Just some soreness from the past 3 weeks of intense P.T.

I split the first mile at a 6:54. Mile 2 was even better at 6:48. Just shy of mile three though I felt the onset of the pain and that knife cutting into my ham.

At first my thought was fuck it and go but then said NO!!! Im not gonna screw up the remainder of my season over this.

I slowed the pace down and finished very satisfied with my time. I shaved another 20 minutes off of last year and hurt and with bronchitis...

I'm happy dude!!!

What would you do differently?:

Live in a bubble the 3 months leading up to the race...
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of Pizza and sat in the ice trash cans for 10 minutes that had all the Gatorade in it. It was Borinators idea. I almost got DQ'd for it.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Acute ITBS and a bad chest cold.

Event comments:

WOW... AN AMAZING WEEKEND with my best. Congrats to Wii, Cotton, Bori, Crash, JayDog, Sandbagger, Egg, Beck and all the hammerheads that raced.

It's an amazing group- this one... I am lucky.... I am privilaged just to be accepted amongst them....

AND JoJo's... what a place...

Course: The traditional St. A's 2 left turn course. Lots of people in my A.G. and lots of fighting in the water. Tried hard to keep my distance but the SwimBori's were not forgiving. Decided not to use a rubber- due to Disney 3 weeks away and the fact that it has the longest 1.2 miles ever- and rubbers are not allowed. It's also fresh water and so I wanted to suffer a bit and get used to it...
