Hi all,

We're using this thread to provide updates regarding the status of the open water swim. As of right now the swim is on but it IS raining right now and they are calling for additional rain.

We will post a final decision by 4pm so please check before you head out.

Thanks,
Larry

Any idea how cold the water is?  I have a wetsuit, of course, but I'm not even sure if that will be enough (?)...Thanks, Michelle

IT'S ON!!!

Forecast says it been raining for hours but I predict the weather the old fashioned way...I look out the window...and thus far we haven't had rain since 11:30.

Hope to see you there!

Oh...the water will be cold...that's another of my predictions! I'm guessing low 60's.

Gotta go drop a buoy...actually, that sounds disgusting...but really...I'm literally going to put the buoy in the water so we can swim around it...what did you think I meant?

We had about 35 people, which for the first one of the season, is a LOT. We usually get 6-10 for the first one and as the weather gets nice it picks up a bunch. That's why it's important to rsvp if you're coming.

The water was 62, and I don't know if there is such a thing but...it was a COLD 62! My face felt like it had been smacked by a sledgehammer for the first few minutes. After that it was fine. The lake warms up quickly so with the predicted weather for next week I would guess around 66-67.

We've had well over 100 for the open water swims. Even though the lake is small people tend to come and go at different times so it works out well. 50-60 swimming at any one time is a lot though.

We're going to keep the limit at 125 per session.

I'll post here on Thursday by 4pm if the swim is on. Forecast looks good right now so we should be a go...I also expect a significant warm up over last weeks 62 degrees!
