Total Time = 1h 22m 16s
Overall Rank = 62/165
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 12/27
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 6:30 and had a bagel w/peanut butter and jelly, 1/2 Cliff Bar, and a little cup of frosted flakes and OJ.
Event warmup:

Got to event and set up transition area. Decided to wear tri shorts for swim and then put on long sleeve shirt, windbreaker and tights for run and bike. Moved towel and clothes into swim area and did part of T1 in pool area. Figured I would bike and run better if I was not freezing.
Swim
  • 12m 52s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Four people per lane. Everyone said they would finish in about 12:00. They lied. I went first and got passed on the second length by the guy behind me and eventually everyone passed me. I felt tons of pressure having everyone go behind me so I would not volunteer to go first again. Kelly and kids came down to pool and cheered for me. That was great. Drew had his skull and crossbones belt on and I had my Skull and crossbones swim cap on and drew kept pointing at his belt when I was turning at the wall.
What would you do differently?:

I started out way too hard. I was sprinting at first. I threw my TI training out the window for the first three laps and then I pulled it together. I really settled down and got my groove after everyone passed me and then I focused on my form. More practice to get up speed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Comments:

Changed in pool area and dried off pretty thoroughly. Put on flip flops and ran out to Transition area. According to chip my swim time was 14:52 but I am putting 2 minutes of that into the Transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 45m 21s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.20 mile/hr
Comments:

The ride back on 29 had wicked crosswind. I have never biked so hard to get 12 mph.
What would you do differently?:

Get areobars so I could have taken better advantage of tailwind when we had it on the trail.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Rocked this transition, kept windbreaker on for run. Will ran out along side of me shouting go dad. That was fun.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 20m 36s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt great except for the end. The finish was around a corner and up a hill. The hill sucked.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and had a banana. We went to Doolittles for lunch and I had a bacon Cheeseburger with mushrooms that seemed kind of gross. Next time I'll go for the salad.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind and going out too fast on swim. Felt flustered at first.

Event comments:

Great race to start season. Maybe they should make 1 weekend later.

Sounds like despite the wind you had a decent race. Congratulations.
