I am totally unfamiliar with the area searching for discount hotels but all the resuls return with millions of options.
Where should I look ? A hotel in St. Petersburg or is there a closer town/city to the triathlon area.
Any tips appreciated.

Best to just call the hotels and ask where they are in proximity to the race. The hampton next to the race site was full we figured we were out of luck called another in st. pete and turned out they were only a few miles from the site and still had plenty of availability.

EDIT: I also want to mention we only made the reservation two weeks ago so all of the hotel panic was not necessarily warranted.

Ali,

There are also a lot of bed/breakfast places around the race area that are really nice and very experienced with the race and it's athletes.  There aren't many chain hotels right at the race site.  St. Anthony's website has a pretty good map to get an idea of where it is in St. Pete.

I am staying at the Alden Beach Resort . . . its about 15 min away from the race site, but its right on the Beach and is reasonably priced.

There is also a listing of other sites under the Travel and lodging option @ http://www.satriathlon.com/

See you all there!!

I was able to get rooms at the Comfort Suites, just 2-3 miles from race site. Reasonable rates as well.

For all you guys going down to St. Anthony's I live in the area and if you're all going to be staying down on st. pete beach you must go to a short ride as a warmup for the race with the St. Pete Cycling Club. it's a great organization and i think you all would really enjoy it. They meet daily at 8 at the North Shore Pool. (Right near the transition for SAT) Have fun ^^
