Age Group Rank = 14/15
Pre-race routine:

Hurried home from work, waited for the sitter to arrive (my wife was working evenings) Made a sandwich (smoked turkey breast and hot mustard!) Changed into race gear and headed out.
Event warmup:

The registration line was a lot longer than I had anticipated and I was unable to go for a ride before the event. I have done a huge amount of commuter cycling, but I have yet to ride my tri bike on pavement this year...yikes I hoped every thing was OK...I also had put some new tires on it...I had no clue how that would feel.
Run

Comments:

Felt good! I kept a nice pace...for me anyways! My best 4k run ever was just over 18 minutes. So I was pleased with this effort. I could have gone harder of course but it's a "long" race. ;)
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I feel this is a respectable time/pace for me at my level.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I ran through T1, I changed shoes quickly without much fuss. Helnmet on smooth and ran with my bike to the mounting area.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

I am a little disappointed with this effort. I don't know why I was soooo slow, other than the fact that it is difficult to haul my arse up hills! I had huge spped going down hill...47 kph on one. I did feel a little drained mid ride. Also I feel that I am not in the best position on the bike. I have a professional bike fitting this Friday...I hope that will produce some more efficiency in my riding. If not I want to know that I'm set up properly. I put some new rubber on this year and I hadn't taken it out for a ride yet (no time!) It felt as though there may be some "flat" parts in the tires (possible they weren't installed perfectly by me or I have a bend/warped rim...front and back) I used the tri bike a ton to commute last year, is it possible some of the pot holes I hit bent my rims????
What would you do differently?:

1) Proper bike fit.
2) Figure out clunky tires.
3) Fuel up as soon as I hit the bike course (1 gel?)
Transition 2

Comments:

T2 was nice and smooth...it's easy to find your spot when half the field is done!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

Comments:

Did great on the second run, kept run continuous until the end and saved a little "bounce" for the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have gone a little faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, did some quick stretches. Drank some water. Didn't eat anything, there was no more food left :( The joys of finishing DFL in your age group...HEY I BEAT THE GUY WHO DNF'd! Whoooooo Hooooooo!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike is buggin me!
