... oh my.

I'm betting we lost almost as many on the MS150 I did this weekend.  Every other intersection there was an ambulance taking a rider or 3 off the course.  BE SAFE AND BE AWARE out there.

Thats awful. Hopefully he gets some time for his actions. He's extremely lucky that he isn't facing manslaughter charges. Glad everyone is ok, and hopefully they don't have to pay for the bike damages.

A Ford Falcon?! They still make those in Australia? They stopped making them here nearly 40 years ago.

So we've successfully exported road rage.  If the driver is arrested, I think that 60 counts of attempted murder sounds about right.

They should make him pay for the bikes, take away his license, and force him to commute on a tricycle.

Then make him towelboy for the AUS Olympic cycling team as community service.

My first thought is that one good part of rising gasoline costs is that there will be more bikers and fewer cars, but that will be not enough and not soon. We really need better education for drivers. That moron in Australia is lucky he didn't kill someone.

Part of me is shocked.  I feel really sorry for those people...  But then it's not surprising.  There are so many people with a sense of invulnerability on the road.  I'm sure outside of the car, the guy is great.  But making a move like this...  Intentionally causing an accident.  He should lose his licence permanently.

That had nothing to do with education. He lost his temper and committed assault with a deadly weapon on 50 people. Telling him ahead of time not to do that wouldn't have stopped him.

Can you believe the douchery?  I can, but it still blows my mind.  I can't imagine seeing something like that.  If I was a witness in a vehicle, I don't know what I would have done, short of doing the same thing to him, or running him off a freakin cliff.  The only problem there is endangering more people.  It just pisses me off.  What a nutbucket.

Unbelievable. I think people forget we are human beings... lawyers, doctors, policemen, teachers etc. We are the same people they talk to at dinner and hang out with on weekends and send their kids to school for. How is it that they forget these things?

Im wondering how harsh the laws in Australia are for this? I am guessing it wont be as bad as if it were to have happened here. I am positive it would be 50 counts of assualt and battery with a motor vehicle, possibly even attempted murder here. On top of that, all sorts of civil lawsuits. In australia, who knows.

Hopefully he goes to jail.. or prison for a while too.

The a-hole is now claiming car trouble caused the accident. He said he slowed, pulled off the road to the side, and attempted to restart the car before the bikers hit him!!!! My, the bullsh*t meter goes high! The bikers claim he was doing 60kph and slammed on the brakes directly in front of them.

I used to live in Sydney not far from where the accident happened.  I wasn't a triathlete then, but a marathon runner and even as a runner I got s**t from drivers!!!!  In London in the UK, when running I sometimes got bombarded with stones or other stuff!!!

The court case should be interesting.

Accused:  I slowed, pulled off the road to the side, and attempted to restart the car before the bikers hit me!

50 cyclists:  The driver of the car was doing an estimated 60kph when he overtook us.  He pulled in front of our group and immediately slammed on the brakes on.  Many of our members slammed into the car causing injury to themselves and to their bicycles.  Then, the driver sped away without bothering to verify whether there were any injured.

2 Police Officers: We corroborate the facts as told by the 50 testifying cyclists.  The driver of the car did speed away after the accident without concern to those who were injured.  We did not give chase in order to stay and control traffic and tend to the injured.

Judge:  Hmmmmm .... who to believe?!?

Car trouble... I hope he gets a perjury charge too. Car trouble should be easily verified/disproven by a mechanic. Not to mention the testimony of 52 individuals.... and also the fact he drove off. Idiot... I hope he goes to a great prison and Bubba makes him his boyfriend.

To make matters worse ... people who do this usually don't have the money to pay for the damages. so the victums are out of luck.

I'm not sure. It is possible he thought he would just cause a bunch of people to fall down, with comic results. I wonder if he realizes how lucky he is not to be facing manslaughter or even murder charges. I think people don't realize how exposed cyclists are and are not aware of the possible results when cars and cycles mix.
