I think people forget we are human beings... lawyers, doctors, policemen, teachers etc. We are the same people they talk to at dinner and hang out with on weekends and send their kids to school for. Accused: I slowed, pulled off the road to the side, and attempted to restart the car before the bikers hit me! 50 cyclists: The driver of the car was doing an estimated 60kph when he overtook us. He pulled in front of our group and immediately slammed on the brakes on. Many of our members slammed into the car causing injury to themselves and to their bicycles. Then, the driver sped away without bothering to verify whether there were any injured. 2 Police Officers: We corroborate the facts as told by the 50 testifying cyclists. The driver of the car did speed away after the accident without concern to those who were injured. We did not give chase in order to stay and control traffic and tend to the injured. I wonder if he realizes how lucky he is not to be facing manslaughter or even murder charges. I think people don't realize how exposed cyclists are and are not aware of the possible results when cars and cycles mix. |
