For over a fortnight ive been getting cramp most nights in bed in both my calf's at the same time. Its killing me im not getting a good nights sleep and it bloody hurts. Ive tried drinking more which usually never happens but ive forced the water down, ive had at least one banana a day but nothing. Ive even tried drinking tonic water (has quinnine in which is supposedly suppose to help) but still no better

Please help i need a sleep without my legs waking me up !

orange juice has a lot of potassium...that may help.  you know to flex your foot when your cramp, right?  you stretch after working out?  do the cramps come after sweating a lot in a workout?

I haven't tried orange juice ill give that a go. I though it was just after training days but i had a day off yestaday and i still got it. Ive been doing more cycling but i can't imagine that would make a difference. My calf's are really tight in fact the main reason i can't tough my toes is cos they hurt not my hamstrings but no amount of stretching has made much difference to them

V8 is a great drink to replenish stores and they used to give it to us in college to help with cramping problems.

You need to get a sports / deep tissue massage.  Sooner than later, to loosen them calf's up or you'll start running into issues with Achilles and heel/foot problems.  Last thing you want is to be walking and doing a little something like a small jump up on a sidewalk from the road level and hear a pop.  Been there done that in the past when I started this game.

Make sure when your stretching your calf's that you are stretching both calf muscles.

stretch.....lots...

also, the fda has removed cramps as an indication for quinine....(though a couple of our patients only get relief from it and nothing else)

Get some potassium in you - bananas and yogurt.

Also go for a massage and sit in a jacuzzi if at all possible.

My wife gets leg cramps when she is pregnant. Her doctor recommend a shot of pickle juice before bed (seriously). She hates pickles and pickle juice but it seemed to help her. Good luck.

What do you drink when you train? After you train? Are you replacing lost electrolytes?

Nuuns is great product to add to water that has electrolytes in it.

Stretching, massage, working out any knots in your calves, taking electrolytes, eating bananas, keeping hydrated all can help.

I think you just forgot the Gin. I reccommend Tanqueray.

I know this might be the wrong forum to bring this up in..... but.... have you tried compression socks? (please noone throw stones at me!) They honestly have seemed to help me a lot and I almost never have calf soreness anymore, and I used to all the time after my long runs.

I used to have lots of calf cramps as you describe. Very painful! I started taking a calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement and within weeks the problem went away. I've been taking the supplement ever since along with my daily vitamin and the problem has never occured again. I also stretch after almost every run.
