I'm doing a HIM this summer, so I guess I will get half the tattoo done and the other half when I finish a full IM. That should be in red font, but I don't know how to change it!

I was thinking about getting the IRONMAN word tattooed, maybe on my shoulder? Maybe done like a tribal band around my arm?

Comments, serious and humorous welcome!

Actually people do do that.  The one I saw the guy left the 70.3 uncolored that way he could get it shaded in when he finished the full.

But seriously, I'm getting one too. After I finish my half I would like to get something that can then be finished when I do a full.

And here's a picture of my current tattoo. Carpe Viam. Latin for Seize the Road.

I though leg-hair was like anti-matter to an m-dot tattoo. How come your leg didn't explode?

Sounds, like a good idea.  I'll be doing my first HIM in September, which will be a huge achievement for me.  So I'll be doing something along those lines to commemorate finishing the event.

I'm doing the Norseman in a couple of months and have every intention of getting a tattoo done the second I get home.

I see the "M-Dot" at the gym pool at the time. I have already talked to my Wife, and she is down with me getting it once I have completed an IM. I have also thought about getting half of it after a 70.3, then finishing it after an IM. However, that takes away the drive to hear four words, and getting a tattoo.

Cool tattoo.  I could WIN Kona and then immediately turn around and do Kona in reverse and still not get the wife to approve a tattoo.

I love my leg hair, I feel naked without it.

All the years in high school and college I shaved it off for swimming.  My friends almost pinned me down in Brazil before the race and shaved them for me, but I put up a good fight.  Our tri club is talking about doing a shave your legs fundraiser, I might participate.

You have to put a < in front of img and a > after the " at the end of the URL. I had to leave them off so it wouldn't think I was trying to insert a picture with a bad link.

or, right above the submit button, you can select the "attach a file after posting button."

Now I'm thinking of getting the swim, bike, run symbols and 140.6. I am way ahead of myself, as usual, but this gives me lot's of time to decide!

I am planning on my IM in 2009 and the tattoo AFTER!

This year, I will check out the artwork at the tri's I do.

ForrestGump - 2008-05-10 5:42 PM A tri mate once said to me that when he finishes his first Ironman he's going to get a small tattoo of the Ironman "M" symbol near his ankle. Just wondering if anyone else out there has one similar to it?

You mean like this?

I would say mine is similar.

Everyone is different. For me, I see no good reason the permanently disfigure my body with corporate logos to reward an accomplishment. Over the years I've done many different kinds of events that have taken considerable time to become proficient at. I would be half covered in corporate logos trying signify all this stuff. But, to each their own.

Is that on your upper chest or back? That artist did a real good job. The one thing people do the least amount of research on is something they will have on their bodies for the rest of their lives. Cheaper is NOT better when it comes to tattoos people! And if you have 5 tattoo shops in your city, only ONE is going to be very good. The rest are going to typically be average to shite. Do yourselves a favor and pay the extra $50, and check out the artist! Oh, and don;t get anything on your ribs. That hurts....alot....trust me.
