Master 2288 Katy, TX (West of Houston) | Subject: RE: Ironman tattoo's? I was going to get a small Mdot tat on my ankle after IMAZ, but, since I DNF'd it will have to wait. I plan (hope) to be signed up for IMAZ 09. We will see.... I have no problem with tats, but if I ever do get one, it needs to be a sign of something important, like finishing an IRONMAN!!!! I will be back in Tempe, I left something out there and MUST go back for it!!!! Edited by Freeswimmingfish 2008-08-19 4:45 PM |

I feel tats should be 100% personal, mine all mean specail things to me, but are probably disliked by as many if not more than the number who like them. For the record, there are very nice tats shown in this thread.. |

Why bother? Everyone knows that unless you've raced Kona, you're not a True Ironman, anyway.Considering there is only ONE true Ironman each year (which is the winner of Kona) then NO ONE should be putting it on themselves unless their name is Macca, Stadler, Reed, Scott, etc. etc. ........ (The history behind the "Ironman" title is that when the group of insane S.E.A.L.s and friends that came up with the crazy idea decided that whomever finished the event in first place would be crowned the Ironman. Of course now anyone who completes a 140.6 event gets that title and it is accepted terminology). |

Master 1748 Port Moody, BC | Subject: RE: Ironman tattoo's? Nobu - 2008-08-20 6:26 AM that's a good point No its not. That is HIS opinion. Daremo, why are you always trying to rain on people's parades? A huge effort is put out in training and competing in an IM event and the athlete chooses to get inked to celebrate the event then who is it for YOU or anyone else to tell them it is wrong? I my self am driving up to Penticton for IM Canada and am planning to get a tattoo afterwards. For the sole reason that I enjoy attention and enjoy bragging about my accomplishments. If someone competes in the Olympics and gets the rings on their body, they are getting a corporate logo emblazed on their body. They compete, they comemorate! Or did you just forget to put your sarc font on? Good job on the tat's everyone, keep 'em coming!

YOU know who the the REAL IRONMAN is. Something just seems to, I dunno about it. Getting it on the calf where EVERYONE can see it seems a little contrary to the "I did it for me" mantra espoused by so many. That being said. I could care less what most others do. YOU know who the the REAL IRONMAN is. They may be overdone in the triathlon community but in the population at large there are very few who have them. In fact, I've never personally seen one although I've just become involved in the sport recently. But, if I ever do an IM and decide to get a tattoo for it it surely won't be for anyone else and whether others have/haven't done it will be of no consideration for me. |

When the hell did I ever criticize a single person for their accomplishment????? And when do I rain on people's parades? If you've got a beef with me on something, send a PM and work it out. Have I ever told someone that they shouldn't get a tattoo? Resounding "No." Why should I give an F if someone wants to ink themselves?? It's their body and their way to celebrate. My post was in jest in that the original definition of the "Ironman" was winner of the race AS DEFINED BY THE PEOPLE WHO CAME UP WITH THE CONCEPT. And sorry if you think that is opinion, feel free to believe that. But it IS fact. That has nothing to do at all with whether or not someone is deserving of getting a tattoo. For someone else to criticize whether or not someone should get a tat is like telling someone they should or should not go out for a beer after a successful race. It's just f-cking ludicrous. I don't know, perhaps your opinion of me is clouded causing you to not understand what "" means. Rather than call you unjust names or bad mouth you for petty bullsh-t I'll just leave it at that ...... Edited by Daremo 2008-08-20 1:38 PM |

They can go out for a beer ... so long as it is (which might be, in fact, the suspect liquid in said Cheerios): In all seriousness, I've been hanging around BT for more than a couple years ... and Rick (Daremo) has not been a parade rainer. A 'go-to' person when I have a wrench question - even if he rides the slow Felt bikes. |

No one did anything to my cheerios...btw, it is commonly "Corn Flakes" that are pizzed in. It was not a personal attack so why would I PM you????? I was responding to your opinion that you voiced in the forums! I don't know why you would take my response as an attack or think I may have a beef with you??? Have I ever told someone that they shouldn't get a tattoo? Resounding "No." Why should I give an F if someone wants to ink themselves?? It's their body and their way to celebrate. If you look at your above comments, you noted that "Considering there is only ONE true Ironman each year (which is the winner of Kona) then NO ONE should be putting it on themselves unless their name is Macca, Stadler, Reed, Scott, etc. etc. ........ " Am i missing something? Have you ever told anyone not to get a tattoo? Uhhh yeah. And sorry if you think that is opinion, feel free to believe that. But it IS fact. That has nothing to do at all with whether or not someone is deserving of getting a tattoo. Never disputed this "fact" with you, I was disputing the fact that YOU thought that...if you are jesting please use the sarc font, I'm not bright enough to figure stuff out like that. :P For someone else to criticize whether or not someone should get a tat is like telling someone they should or should not go out for a beer after a successful race. Rather than call you unjust names or bad mouth you for petty bullsh-t I'll just leave it at that ...... So after all this do we know what your stance is on this matter? I'm so confused...and petty...wait...petty??!! I don't have an opinion of you Daremo, I don't know you...just of you...why don't you sum up all the names you wanted to call me and PM them to me? I sit here wondering how this has gotten to this point...are you really that angry at me or is it just a big build up to your up coming race or it this really what your personality is all about? My "petty bullsh-t" not withstanding, I would rather pick a stronger topic such as politics, religion or sheep cloning to get into a heated debate with you...have a nice day Going for a run now, can't wait to see the responses.... :P
