Total Time = 8h 38m 30s
Overall Rank = /350
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast of half bagel with peanut butter, some accelerade. Peed a hundred times.
Event warmup:

Walked the site with the family. No real warm up.
  • 13m 5s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 59s / 100 yards

THIS SWIM SUCKED. Had an asthma attack in the pool due to the temp. I don't know the temp, but good GOD was it cold. I breast stroked the entire thing because no matter what I did, I just couldn't get control of my breath. I think I swallowed half the pool. At least I didn't quit in the pool, like I saw at least one person do.
What would you do differently?:

try using a wetsuit for outdoor swims, but other than that nothing. I couldn't breathe from the moment I hit the water. I was prepared for the swim, but not the pool temp.
Transition 1
  • 04m

I think for my first triathlon and first transition, I did pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
  • 54m 37s
  • 12 miles
  • 13.18 mile/hr

I may have gone out a touch too hard trying to make up time from the pool, but at the same time. I never was able to quite catch my breath. I did pass someone on the bike though. I was playing tag with her for quite a while. But I think she got me on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Train outside more and train more hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s

I did really well in this transition. Yankz are awesome. Need to work with them a bit more though to get them really comfortable
What would you do differently?:

  • 53m 42s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 16m 47s  min/mile

I walked a majority of this part 1. because my legs were shot and 2, because I don't run. I did jog a couple of times. Jogged across the finish. I had to finish strong.
What would you do differently?:

try to work on my run if my knee will let me.
Post race
Warm down:

Massage, fluids, pack up and back to the hotel for lunch, ice bath and a nap.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

asthma attach

Event comments:

I probably won't do this race next year due to the distance, but it was a good race. I had a lot of fun.

I saw people quitting and getting out of the pool. As someone told me once. You never know until you tri...and I did. I had a ball. Although at one point, I believe I asked a sheriff for his sidearm. I need to train a little differently for my next one in October, but now I know.

Congrats on finsihing your first Tri.

The water was definately a little chilly and it will definately take your breath away if your not used to it. But you persevered and that's what counts.

Keep on training and having fun.

Nice job triathlete! Why weren't they heating the pool, dagnabbit!

Something must have gotten mixed up - it says your total time is 8h 38m ? Weird.. Anyway, wonderful performance and best wishes with your next event [hopefully you can find one before October!]
