Pre-race routine:

It being Mother's Day, I told the boys they had no choice but to come with me so we left the house at 7:30....I had coffee and half a banana.
Event warmup:

did 3 loops of the crit - nice course, no major debris, open to cars, mostly well marshalled.

What would you do differently?:

not let anyone cut me off!!! stay on the outside on the turns.
Post race
Warm down:

we stayed to watch the men's C race - which on the 3 of 4 weeks a month without a women's race is what I will have to race with....the good news is their pack is big - so lots of drafting potential.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the near crash that took me out of the pack, so much of the race I was doing a time trial

Event comments:

this is a training crit that happens weekly (weather dependent) though not the women's race...well organized, lots of support and cheering.

Performance:
Happily survived the crit and rubber stayed down! on the 3rd or 4th loop, I was in the pack towards the front, and on the inside on a turn, got cut off, went into the other bike and happily in spite of contact was able to stay upright - really thought I was going down - hurray I am getting bike handling skills! so never caught the pack but after feeling pretty shaken up stayed in it and finished. Pace lined with 2 of the coaches and another girl - it was fun. The boys cheered every time I went by.
Wind: Headwind
Course: we had a head wind that increased as the race progressed, this certainly affected my speed and definitely made the slight inclines feel like mountains by the end. At one point lost a lot of speed when I had to brake for a car - our whole paceline broke up there, but then we got back together.

Getting cut off and staying upright rocks!

Great first crit and it turned out way better than mine.

They are redline events for the most part other  than when you can draft nicely.

Congrats!
