Subject: Your gym/workout place busy right now?
My workplace has a small gym, track, soccer field, and a few courts. I mostly use it for the track, a place to park my bike when I commute in, and for the lockers & showers. The first day back to work after the holiday break is when you can rent a locker for the year. The locker room is so busy this time of year with the resolutionists. Every year it falls off after a few weeks, and then only the regulars are left, especially in the summer. But I still need to scramble to get a locker, before they all get reserved. And the room feels so tiny with THAT many people in it. I'm used to only 2 or so others in there at a time. Ah well, things should be back to normal around there in a few weeks.

I had to fight for a treadmill last evening. The kid watch was packed. Its incredible!!! I'm ashamed to admit that I've almost wished for some of these people to quit their resolutions early. That's so more likely than our Y purchasing some additional treadmills.

Not to bad, but then again i'm at the gym at 5:00 am. From what I've heard from others, the place is more crowded after work. I have noticed quite a few more people in the gym at lunch time, when I go swim, and the pool has been a bit more crowded.

Wow, you are sooooo lucky that your work provides a gym for you. And not only do you get a gym, you get a track and soccer field. Everyone must be fit there!!!!

first time in 2 months I had to share a lane in the pool. That was Monday at lunch...today, I will see how crowded it is after work. Wish me luck!

I am shocked but its dead - just the die hards are there! It could be that I go at noon as its right across the street from where I work and most people go in the evening. Who knows, but I'm not complaining! :-)

3 weeks.

Every year my Gym gets packed for the first 3 weeks of January. Then they all give up and go back to Mickey-D's.

I just start going back to the gym on a regular basis.. Easier on my ankle than running outside (stepper man now)...

It was packed last night. I get off earlier than most so it is easier on me but I did see an increase from
last week to this week for sure.

I will go twice tonight once at 3:30 and the other after 7:00...
I do not think I will have any trouble working out at either time..

5-7 will be crazy for sure..

Everyone must be fit there!!!!

Well, there are about 10,000 employees at this plantsite. Strangely, a small percentage use the facilities. Add to that the facilities are open to company contractors, and spouses and dependents of employees, and the place should be packed all the time. But it’s not. I mean, it’s a nice facility, and it’s FREE. They’ve got nice gym equipment inside, a small store with drinks and energy food (bars & gu’s), lots of outside stuff and a trailer for classes where they teach aerobics, pilates, cardio kickboxing, etc, throughout the year. If they only had a pool, I'd live there.

Most here pig out at the greasy burrito wagon at lunch rather than workout. So, no, not everyone here is fit. :-(

Maybe we could each take one person under our wing and help them to achieve completing a triathlon this year?

Since I'm usually at the gym around 5:30 am, it's not usually to packed. I did notice it picked up this week, fortunatley that are not using the pool so I still have it to myself. I did go in there last night to see the chiropractor and it was a ZOO!!!! People everywhere reminds me why I don't go at night..

Just try to be patient for a few weeks, most of those die hards will be gone in a month or so. I hate to say that but it happens every year, the gym managers love January! Can you go earlier? I find most gyms are busy between 7am-9am, 1130am-1pm and then 4pm-8pm, can you go inbetween these times? If there is an aerobics class on it will be even worse so check on the aerobic time schedual and don`t go during those times.

My gym has about a dozen different locations throughout the city, but MY gym is in an upscale location in the city so of course all the new resolutionists are going to MY location.  Good for them, but it is hard not to be a little skeptical as I've seen it many times before.  Last night I had to park 2 lots over.  The friken place was packed.  I wouldn't mind so much if they were actually using the machinery instead of walking at a snails pace (on my optimal babe viewing treadmill) or just sitting on the machines "chatting."  All the regulars have a montra we use:

"Four more weeks."

I actually feel kind of guilty for doggin them, but c'mon, if your gonna go, you might as well work out (and not on my babe viewing treadmill, for god's sake...)

I love all the new members to my gym. They pay money to join and monthly fees. Then they stop coming. More members paying dues keeps my membership fees at a minimum and keeps the gym updated with modern equipment and new workout classes. Yay!

Elaine! Just give them all a boot with your peg leg!

The Queen's University students aren't back until next week, so I have a few more days of peaceful swimming.  Haven't checked out the Y yet, but I assume it's packed

DOHT! No blog entry cuz I spent the morning at the dentist. I'm even lucky enough to back again tomorrow morning! Woohoo! One day a Dentist will have to explain to me why their field has not kept up technologically with the rest of the medical field. Why must they still put metal items in my mouth in a time when we have lasers fixing eyeballs and magnets checking out what 's happening in our brains?

I go to a gym that's part of the cardio rehab at a hospital. Not only is it never packed, you don't have to deal with the posers. The pool is mostly for lap swimming with just a few H2O excercise classes. There's a separate therapy pool. It costs a little more than LA Fitness, but well worth it.

C'mon, guys, are you going to say that you were never one of those resolutionists? Everyone started sometime. I agree, a crowded gym is annoying, esp. in the winter. Those of us who work out at university gyms curse the return of the undergrads in the fall. But still... Maybe some of the newbies on this site fall into the resolutionist category, and to those that do, I sincerely wish you luck and many good workouts!

I think that 90% of the comments in this thread are just little rants (except maybe Welshy with his babe treadmill location being taken). If anything, its been nice to see some new faces in our gym. Some of the smaller gyms are obviously bursting at the seams during these few weeks (especially Welshy's cardio theatre). My YMCA in NC was packed last night - this scares me since I'm willing to bet that the 70-80 degree weather has many people taking advantage of some outside exercise. When it gets cold again, they'll be in there fighting with me for a treadmill (Where's that treadmill located at Welshy???). Regardless, its great to see people doing something positive to improve their health. Now if they could just do it away from mine and Welshy's treadmill....
