Total Time = 2h 54m 40s
Overall Rank = 41/79
Age Group = 30 - 39
Age Group Rank = 4/16
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal with pecans, raisins and flaxseed.
Gave myself 45 min. to get ready to leave... opened mother's day cards. :)
Got to race about 7:30, didn't want to be there too early.
Event warmup:

dynamic warm ups, 300 m swim
Swim
  • 30m 23s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a terrible swim for me! People were swimming on my legs, and over me, so I finally gave up just to get some space. Ended up 10/12 in my lane pulling the two men behind me for most of the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more aggressively and be sure my time is accurate.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Slow transition, probably about 5 min, but glad I took the time to put extra clothes on. Got my shirt and jacket on, but forgot my HR moniter, so had to readjust a little.
Bike
  • 1h 28m 46s
  • 40 kms
  • 27.04 km/hr
Comments:

IT WAS COLD AND WET!!! Ick....
Went at mostly a comfortable pace, often noticed my HR falling below 145, so would ramp it up until my legs started to complain. Pretty cold and wet, feet were freezing.
No one around me to pace.
Some wind coming back into town.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder, I was kind of lollygagging.....
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Pretty slow again... took off my jacket, fingers were too cold to tighten my laces.

Run
  • 55m 31s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 33s  min/km
Comments:

Actually took my shoes off to see if I had put my orthotics in the right shoes... my feet were so frozen my shoes felt awful!
If I was lollygagging on the bike, I really lollygagged on the run. But I enjoyed it. I was comfortable and having a good day, so thought I'd leave it at that. Needed a good day on this race after last year's disaster.
Walked the water stations.
HR avg. about 150, so I wasn't exactly pushing it!

What would you do differently?:

Run harder... :)
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cold and rain... brrr...
Mindset too I think. I just wasn't into going hard and part of it may have been that I knew the top to women in my age group were really fast.

Event comments:

This a really well organized event and the volunteers are great. Unfortunately it's always freezing!
I'm getting more consistent.. I'm gaining on the bike instead of losing now, so that's progress!

You got it done...and better than last year.

Think! While you were doing this, other mums were lying in bed and sucking on bonbons and watching Coronation Street on CBC.

You learned lots. Next time get bungee laces.

You got it done and not as badly as you make it out it was...smile!

great race, great results for a crappy weather day.  i would love to have your swim pace. windnsnow is right, you are way to hard on yourself.

my guess is that after florida you weren't really into this one (even though you did great).  don't worry, summer is suppose show up sometime this year...for now enjoy the thought on how much you progressed & how indeed 98.7% of the mothers were doing nothing except for the bonbons or the all you can eat buffet.

enjoy your progress!

Thanks guys... I did have an enjoyable race, but I agree, I just wasn't that into it. (not going hard anyways!)We hit the brunch buffet afterwards... and then post race party with Dwayne, rainbowtrout and family. Still feeling exhausted and queasy! (she's a bad influence on me!)
