![]() Swim
Comments: I was in the "newbie" wave so I went up front because I figured I can keep up with most people. I started off well, probably a little too fast, and ended up veering off course. I must of added an additional 50-75yds to my swim. I also was out of breath after that. I did the breaststroke most of the way. What would you do differently?: Although the water was 55 degrees, it wasn't that bad. I am glad I went in last week. I need to practice OWS, swimming in a wetsuit, and swimming longer distances. Time for Masters swim. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: This was okay. I walked/ran over to my bike. I took my time because I didn't want to forget anything. I had a mishap with my number pinned on my shirt. What would you do differently?: Get a race belt. ![]() Bike
Comments: I felt good on the bike. I am getting more and more comfortable on it. I was pretty much by myself the whole way. I passed 2 girls and was passed by 5-6 people. The sun was out, there wasn't any wind, it was a good ride. Again, I am glad I did this route last week. Took 5 min off. What would you do differently?: 1. Get fitted for the bike. 2. Practice Hills. 3. Put the clipless pedals on. 4. Practice Hills. 5. Learn to switch gears. 6. Practice Hills. 7. Repeat #'s 2,4,6 x100. 8. Drink more ![]() Transition 2
Comments: This was fine. In and out. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Run
Comments: Started off up a hill. I walked it. My calves were cramping up, which is the first time this has happened. I started jogging after the hill with some periods of walking. There was no way this was 5k. The course was nice through the park. What would you do differently?: Run more. Drink more on bike ![]() Post race
Warm down: Met my mom and brother. Found out my wife and kids went home because the kids were cranky. I grabbed some oranges and had a Clif bar. Walked around for a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Now that I have my base down, I think, I need to start working on getting faster. Masters swim, more hills on the bike, running more. Event comments: For my first ever triathlon with just about 12 weeks removed from doing no exercise and 20lbs heavier, I am thrilled. I also know I trained enough to finish the race, so I was hoping I would do a little better. This was my first and last DFL. I have another race in 5 weeks and I will be signing up for my first Oly today. I guess I am hooked. Last updated: 2008-03-12 12:00 AM

Got everything ready the night before. Had help from my little one, as you can see in the avitar. Got up at 5am and had whole wheat toast with pb&j and bowl of oatmeal. Had a G2 on way to race. I am glad I got there early because parking was sort of crazy. I picked up my race packet, got marked and racked my bike and waited. Ran into Marianne (mav) before the start. Talked with some other newbies. Saw my mom and brother before we headed over to the water.
Not much. I was in the last wave and had to wait about 20 minutes because rescue had to pull 2 people out of the water.
