I am going to be doing the Rudy Project Sprint held at Caesar's Creek in early June. I was wondering if the water temps will be warm enough by then to do the swim without a wetsuit or should I plan on one? I don't currently own a wetsuit so if the water temps are typically really cold that time of the year then I need to get shopping.

Caesar's Creek is July 6th. Are you thinking of the one at Deer Creek on June 8th?

Nope there is another race put on by a different organizer (not HFP) that is on the 1st. I am also doing the HFP race which is at the end of July. Not too worried about the late June/July race, but early June I think the water temps might be really chilly.

Looking at some race reports from previous years and not a single one has mentioned using a wetsuit or cold temps, so maybe I am ok.

I'm a bit worried about this myself; we have not had any real warm weather yet to warm up the lake.

I did the Deer Creek race the same weekend last year... it's a bit farther north... and, while chilly, the water wasn't miserable without a wetsuit.

I don't have / haven't tried using a wetsuit and plan on doing the June 1 race without.

I guess this could provide that extra incentive to get out of the water quickly.

I am planning on a no wetsuit race, but if I find out something in the next couple of weeks that indicates the water temps are going to be in the 60s then I will have to go purchase one quickly. I don't even know of anyplace local that sells them, the closest place I have seen is in Columbus.

I think this is the same place I went last year for packet pickup for Outer Limits, which was held in Columbus. http://tritechmultisport.com

They are a bike shop in general I think but I did notice while I was there a fair number of wetsuits and I noticed they have a bunch listed on their website.

Stopped by Tri Tech today. They do have some wet suites at 20% off. Very nice store.

That's original. How long did it take you to think that one up?

I chickened out today and ordered a wetsuit from wetsuitrentals.com. I hope it gets here in time to take it for a practice swim.

I checked the 10 day forecast and it looks like we will have a couple of days in the 80s early next week, and then a bunch more in the 70s. I don't see the water warming up too much.

Is it wimpy to use a wetsuit for a Sprint for water in the 60s?

Great call! I forgot all about renting a wetsuit. I just placed my order and talked with Kristina via email. They have fantastic customer support! She was responsive extremely quickly and they are going to send out the suit to me via 2-day FedEx for an extra charge. This way I will get a few days with it so that I can get some pool time in with it before the race. I have never swam with one or even put one on, so I need some time with it.

Hell no! I want to be able to feel my legs when I get out of the water. I know I will be in the water for 12+ minutes just for the race alone, not including warm up and the time sitting there wating to start. So yup I think it is a good call.

See you at the race! I will be wearing my green/black Javelin race suit and have Orange Trek 1000.  I will have to do packet pick up the site as I don't want to drive to Columbus to get the stuff, so I plan on getting there around 6ish I think.
