Overall Rank = 123/1800
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 17/170
Pre-race routine:

2 oatmeal pacs, beagal, 1 cup coffee, 2 hours before start, 1 banana 45 min before start, 1 gel 10 min before start
Event warmup:

short swim to warm-up
Swim
  • 30m 31s
  • 2078 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I went out too fast, was leading my wave into the first turn bouy.
What would you do differently?:

out slower, be more patient on sighting. I went off coarse badly after the second turn bouy (probably 75 yards). I wasn't expecting the current to drift me off course.
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

couldn't get the wetsuit off, spent at least 20 seconds messing with it.
What would you do differently?:

need to figure out how to get the WS off quicker.
Bike
  • 2h 35m 16s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.64 mile/hr
Comments:

lost salt tab pack and missed the last one. I think they effected my run when the sun came out and it got hot.
What would you do differently?:

more Lava Salts
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

socks seamed to take too long.
Run
  • 1h 48m 25s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

GI problems, sweat was very salty and forarms and quads started to cramp. It was HOT, and I couldn't stomach getting any gels down. I could drink water but not gatoraid. This is the first time this had happened. Not enough heat training going into this race. Walked twice to get fluids, this is the thing that frankly pisses me off the most about my race performances, when I walk. I hate myself for it!
What would you do differently?:

NO WALKING!!! more Lava Salts on the bike. Sip on the gel water solution. I need to train like this.
Post race
Warm down:

sat for about an hour and hydrated with water. Ate some pizza and oranges, more water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat!

That's an excellent race. Especially with those conditions. It was hot as all get up out there. I never tried Lava Salts. I may need to look into those. I hate walking too. It's the worst of the worst feelings. Sometimes though, you just have to, and in that heat, there were not many options.
