Subject: 'Assault on Sugarloaf' 30-56-112 mile rides, Sept 14th

I saw an ad today for 'Assault on Sugarloaf' 30-56-112 mile rides (Florida Challenge and Great Floridan tri courses) on Sept 14th.

Anyone planning on doing any of these rides?

For only $30 this sounds like "fun".

Sounds like a great ride. I have been wanting to go ride in Clermont to try to get some hills. This would be a great warm up ride for my first HIM in Nov. Just have to get the wifes OK to go ride on her birthday.

FYI, I inputted the 07 IM Great Floridian loop 1 (East and Florida Challenge HIM) and Loop 2 (West) courses  into BT route tracker so one could see the Elevations.  You can find them with a FL search.

Hmmm I would be interested but I have IM WI one week before this and somehow I don't think my legs will be ready for that sort of torture just yet As an alternative, there is also the Horrible Hundred in Clermont in October put on by the Florida Freewheelers:

I'm in for this - I am racing The Florida Challenge this year as my first HIM, so this will be my trial run of the bike course.

We did this ride a few weeks ago and there is another group putting together a similar ride soon. I will post when they have the training day if anyone is interested in going.

I will be there too. It is my final long ride prior to Clermont 140.6. It will be good to put the curse under my belt again.

to the altrunnergirl..... I did the 70.3 there last year! I guess that mean you will be a 140.6 nexy year

always raising the bar

hopefully I will get to meet trinewbieguy this time.

This looks great. Should help in my training for beach 2 battleship on Nov. 1. The first loop isn't bad but that 2nd one will wear you out!!

I have registered for the 112.  Coming up with my training buddy.  Looking perhaps to share a house for the weekend with some folks to keep it cheap.  Anyone interested?

I am going to do the 56 mile ride. I will be the guy on the Cervelo crying for his mommy and a blankie at the top of Sugarloaf!

I did a 45 miler this past Sat and didn't feel as bad as I thought I would.  Positive that I and some other locals will be heading over for the 56 miler.  I needed a good excuse to but a 12-25 on the race wheels!

Can't get enough of this pix!

When I did the 1/2 back in 2003 it was about the 36 mile point, but that may have changed.

The point that I start to cry. Seriously, I tried to ride it this weekend, she knocked me off my bike and stole my lunch money.

I left muttering "I'll be back" but it didn't sound menacing at all, it sounded a little sad.

Mark my words, I will beat it, oh yes, I will...

The routes are suppose to be the same as the latest (07) Great Floridian IM and Florida Challenge HIM courses.   Here's the 56 mile (actually ~58.15) east loop and here's the west ~53.65 mile (for 112) loop.  Sugarloaf is located at ~mile 24 on the east loop.

I'm committed, 4 riding partners have also signed up on my "hey let's do this" from 2-3 weeks ago!  I'm a mouse click away on Nashbar.com for my race wheel cassette and chain...going for a 13-25, hope that 25 is enough!

We're driving over in the morning.

I'm confirmed, I'll be riding with 2 of my friends.  This is my chance to tackle the ride before the Florida Challenge next month!
