While I've yet to register for this event, I've had it marked on my calendar. Personally, the issue has been the requirement to pick up the race packet on the day before. Being I'm not exactly down the road from Montalk, I really have little interest in making this a two day event.

Regardless, I'll probably end up registering for it this week, providing it's not sold out.

Are you guys talking about the HIM in Oct or the Olympic in June?? Previous post about Mighty North Fork (sold out btw) starting season confuses me. If you're talking about the HIM in Oct, Packet Pickup is now offered the Tues before event in Syosset.

I'm reffering to the RJ Aaron Memorial Montauk event on June 7.

Yeah, Packet Pickup for that is a Hack.

I'm signed up and booked a three-day stay at the beautfiul Harborside motel.  Going to make a nice family vacation weekend out of it.  And since I'll be getting there the day before, packet pick-up is not a problem for me.

I am psyched and really ready for this race!

Being I don't have a family to take on vacation and was told most hotels require a 2 night stay, I had entertained the idea of driving to Montauk on Friday night, and crashing on the beach (would make for an interesting story). If I can be honest, the idea of spending over 600 bucks (entry fees, hotel, gas, food) for a weekend alone didn't sound all too appealing.

However, a few of my new tri-buddies had mentioned a hotel which is relatively cheap, where I'd be able to stay for 1 night. Providing this event isn't sold out by the end of this week, I'll probably sign up.

It would be my first Olympic - looking forward to it. Laughing

Two-day hotel is $273, and that's for 3 adults two children, $102 regi fee, gas'll be 35 55 bucks, I'll have the wife pack lunches and lots of food, $70 misc, so yeah it'll cost just around $500.00 total.  Still not too bad for a weekend out at Montauk for the whole family.

If you and you buddies find a place and split it, it'll cost you $91 for the room, carpool and split gas $20.00, regi fee $102, misc $50, you can defintely do it all for under $300 bucks.

Everyone ready for Montauk??  I know me and mscotthall are pretty much ready.

So far weather.com ( http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/outdoors/tenday/USNY0939?from=36hr_topnav_outdoors  says it's going to be Sunny and 70 degrees with only a 20% chance of the wet stuff.  I know it's still too early to really call it, but I'll take that forecast!  Since I'm doing a three-day-weekend out there with the famil, I am praying for sun and 70+ degrees all weekend.  That would be so awesome.

If anyone who has raced this tri before has any advice, feel free to share and give some tips.  I really want to try and and have a "sprint" mentality throughout the whole race.  We'll see

As I mentioned before, it is my first Olympic race - so I'm 25% nervous and 75% excited. Montauk has always held a place in my heart for it's sacred and beautiful landscape. I am very much looking forward to attacking the course with everything I've got.

I can't give you too much info based on last year. The weather was awful and the fog was so bad that you could barely see from one buoy to the next. The rain made the bike ride pretty treacherous but the hills are pretty intense at some points. The run was tough for me last year because I was injured at the time. Check out my race report for more info.

FYI Bobby: There are some pretty nice descents on the bike course which should help you attack the race... but, for every downhill, there's an uphill. The swim is straight out, turn around and straight back. With your swimming speed, you can kill it and be one of the earliest to exit the water. I finished the swim 106/521 last year. You can easily be in the top 75 out of the water. I'll watch when they give you your medal at your podium finish.

From your lips to God's ears!  But serously that's a long shot.  If we all have fun, don't get hurt, the skies are clear and sunny -- that would all be better than a podium finish.

the skies are clear and sunny ...

Forecast is calling "partly cloudy, 74° with a 20% chance of rain." I'd take that in a heartbeat.
