Total Time = 2h 30m 16s
Overall Rank = 37/365
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 3/26
Pre-race routine:

Ate 2 pieces toast w/ peanut butter. Drove to race about 1 hour.
Event warmup:

Ran a very small amount, swam about 200 yds.
Swim
  • 25m 33s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Typical swim for me. Usually around 1:30+ per 100 yds.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to site better. I had to stop and look to make sure I was going the right direction. I tended to drift to the left, which is bad for a clockwise course.
Transition 1
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

I am really bad at mounting the bike. I stopped to put on socks for this distance, which didn't help.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to do a flying mount on the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 19s
  • 25 miles
  • 21.03 mile/hr
Comments:

A very nice ride course. I wish I was better at hills and I could take advantage of it.
What would you do differently?:

Do better on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Slow transition. I really need to work on this. I stopped to put on my Garmin, race number belt, etc. Really need to work on a better system.
What would you do differently?:

Either wear the Garmin from the start or forget it. Learn how to do a flying dismount, etc.
Run
  • 49m 38s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run course. Not too hilly and with lots of shade. It is hard to see more than about 1/10th of a mile ahead, making it difficult to get a target and run for them. That's good for slow runners like me.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks in training to run faster off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched my piriformis muscle.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm having some problems with piriformis syndrome that is hurting my power on the bike and the run. I need to rehab and strengthen this to improve.

Event comments:

This is one of the best races I have run. The combination of a great course, close to home, and well supported, makes it great!

Great race Jon.  You had the swim I wanted!  I had the same issue with the Garmin and decided to try a low tech approach with my IM watch (just HR).  It was actually nice.

Try staggered lunges for your issue.  I had a flair up last year and they helped me some.  As you know, stretch, stretch stretch.

Good luck with the rest of the season.

It was great to see you at the race! Congrats on your age group hardware and another awesome showing in a tri. When are you going to teach me to swim?
