Total Time = 1h 28m 14s
Overall Rank = 159/214
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 16/18
Pre-race routine:

Drove to Texarkana picked up the packet 9:00 got a sub and headed to the room
Breakfast was a package of peanut butter crackers and a Danish
Event warmup:

I made it to the lake with plenty of time set up and talked to some of the local club members and Bters. Including Bonny, and Markquite. Did some light jogging then got in the water to adjust.
Swim
  • 13m 58s
  • 650 yards
  • 02m 09s / 100 yards
Comments:

3 wave start I was in the over 39 group I positioned myself to the left but left swimming hard and was soon in the mix master after getting hit in the back several times I was glad to have the wetsuit (no claw marks) I was out of sync the entire swim breathing off my right side only and totally loosing all my swim technique I was not reaching pulling rolling and pushing as I have been practicing I was wind milling and chopping my stroke I think part of this is due to the limited visibility and attempting to protect my face from feet. I thought I did well on the swim even with the poor form.
What would you do differently?:

I need to race the way I train at least in the pool
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

T-1 was a bit longer than I would like taking off the suit took some time even with strippers then it was a good trot out of transition this is where I saw Bonny and noted wow she must have had a fast swim as she started 3 min behind me. She did not really acknowledge my congrats. I found out why later.
What would you do differently?:

Sit down as soonas the suit is at my waist
Bike
  • 43m 15s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Stayed up on the way out of the park and cranked up the rpm to get blood flowing to the legs then I got aero on the dam my goal here was to hold off Dave until the turn around. Kammi passed me early on about mile 3. After a few miles I was surprised that my pace was only 16.2 I was aero and holding 85 to 95 RPM but with the head wind I just was not gaining any speed. At the turn around I noticed how much wind there was I was up to 20+ and felt like it was dead calm so head wind was about 20 mph. Dave finally caught me at mile 9 and made the remark either he is a worse swimmer or I am a better cyclist than last year. Rest of ride was uneventful until I reached the small hill at the next turn around wow that small hill really hurt and slowed me to a crawl.
What would you do differently?:

This was as good a ride as I am capable of at this time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Nothing good t-2
What would you do differently?:

leave gloves on removing them on the run
Run
  • 26m 47s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I did not drink on the bike I took time to drink in transition then took a 2 min walk out of transition to drink this is where Tammy passed me encouraging me to run I told here I would in 15 seconds and I did. I ran the entire run except for the 2 min post transition and the water stops I saw David but was unable to catch him although I did beat him in the end.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure
Post race
Warm down:

Had some pizza and a burger did not get enough to drink and felt real tired. The local club East Texas Triathletes had a real good showing with Chauncy winning overall William, Kami, Eric, and Tammy, all placing. We got a few good group pictures.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limitations in order of importance lack of dedicated training, injuries, weight, With the exception of injuries and perhaps those too are self imposed and until I decide to step up the seriousness of my training they will continue

Event comments:

Great event very fast
