Pre-race routine:

This pretty much sucked. Worked the night before and got my a$$ handed to me. Slept maybe 2 hours. Woke up at 6:30 and had a Clif bar and banana. Drove bleary eyed to the race, sipping some HEED on the way.
Event warmup:

Short warmup run and some stretching.

Comments:

Initially felt pretty good for the first half. Started a little slower than I wanted and had to dodge some runners at the start. Sorry but here we go: if you finish the 10k in 1:20, perhaps the front row isn't the correct starting position.
Anyway, at the turnaround my legs started feeling like goo and now the wind was in my face. Knew I wasn't going to get a PR and hoped to break 20 minutes again. Not to happen. Oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Not work the night before? Not likely for this type of race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched, and jogged a little. Picked up my shirt and waited for my family to show up to do the kid's race later.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My last month of training has been pretty bad due to illness and some knee pain. I've also done zero speedwork this season and have only been racing longer distances (15k, half mar). So there are my excuses. I feel a little better now and all things considered, the time wasn't bad.

Event comments:

I really enjoy this race and have done it three years in a row now. Obviously the cause is close to my heart. But this a lot of fun to bring your family to with lots of firetrucks, helicopters, etc., climbing wall, slide, kid's combat challenge course. Fun kid's race too and Rocky the Nugget's mascot shows up (along with Rapids, Mammoth). It's a flat and fast course along the Platte and the weather (knock on wood) has always been beautiful.

20:04, that's damn good!  So no PR but you can't have one every race.  Solid pace!
