Pre-race routine:

Trouble getting up - I fell asleep the day before for an unplanned power nap from around 4pm - 5pm. I woke up and was wired until around 11:30pm. Had a bagel and peanutbutter. Drank a Monster Java Energy drink and headed to the race - only about 15 miles away.
Event warmup:

Lots of stretching and loosening up. Jammed to a few tunes on my MP3 player - gotta love Korn and Saliva - both get the blood pumpin'!
Swim
  • 09m 29s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out breathing every 4 strokes - tried to stay relaxed. Did do the breast stroke a few times. Wasn't a slow breast stroke - didn't loose much ground at all with those that were using the craw.
What would you do differently?:

No excuses for me here - I just gotta swim more. I know I don't and don't pretend that I can't. Just been 3 times in the past month - not gonna get any better like that!
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Had trouble clipping in - wasted precious time here.

What would you do differently?:

ummm - should switch out to my speed plays - maybe that will help?
Bike
  • 28m 28s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Very technical course - lots of gear shifting - I liked the stops and turns 'cause I like to sprint. I was actually surprised I averaged over 21 mph again.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I can think of. Just need T.I.T.S.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

OK - I got my right foot unclipped. Swung it over to the other side as I approached the dismount line. I was going too fast and touched down before I got my left foot uclipped. I was "this" close to hitting the pavement but was able to pull it off. I got more comments and cheers and claps saying, "great save" than anywhere else on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Not be such a klutz.
Run
  • 22m 43s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get my butt out running some more.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing really spectacular. I saw Janette (nette213) at the finish line so I stopped and chatted w/ her since she is the only person I knew there. Had some water, some sandwhich and a 1/2 banana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Been a very stressful past few weeks with not much training. Plus I really wasn't "into" this race - more of a "D" race for me. Mostly mental! (Go ahead, say it!) To boot, when I signed up for clydes I didn't expect to get down to 196 lbs 4 days before the race so I kinda went on an "Elvis" diet which I'm sure didn't do me much good nutrition wise. But I weighed in on race day at 200.8 lbs! Woo Hoo!

Event comments:

Volunteers were great - lots of help and cheering and encouragement. It's a small race in it's 3rd year. Very pretty scenery - magnificent homes / estates / mansions / compounds.

Course: Lots and lots of turns - winding through neighbor hoods. Counted on the map that their were 27 90 degree corners. RD stated that we'd be passing over 1500 driveways and it was our responsibility to be safe. I had a motorcycle cut in front of me into the clearly marked "bike only" lane as we both made a right hand turn into a corner - don't know what the heck he was thinking.

Wow, just think what you would have done if you were "into" this race!  Great job!  It was good to see you again.

Good race - imagine if you actually swam?  LOL - the only time you're in the water is on race day.  I think more races are in order just to get you in the water.

Great job on your race. A bit more training and you'll be knocking down some fast times.

See you at a race down the road.

Safe training and fast racing!
