Overall Rank = 195/
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 10/10
Pre-race routine:

Stayed in Texarkana...Got up and had a banana and bagel. Got there and Beth helped me get my stuff to the Transisiton area. She's so cute! Patting me on the back telling me to have fun and not to worry...
Event warmup:

woke up with back spasms...Killer lower back pain...First time I've had that in months...Stretched it out and did crunches the best I could...Vitamin 'I' and decided to go for it...What the hell, it's not like my back hasn't gone out before
Swim
  • 15m 34s
  • 650 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

Used a shorty wet suit I use to dive in...Not a good move, it actually created drag, but postivie side probably helped my buoyancy
What would you do differently?:

Swim naked! Not really...either invest in proper wet suit or brave chilly temps
Transition 1
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

Although it was faster than Athens...I think it is safe to say, I can go a little faster
What would you do differently?:

maybe clip shoes into bike ahead of time...I need to practice that...
Bike
  • 46m 48s
  • 13 miles
  • 16.67 mile/hr
Comments:

I was pleased with my progress...But, my back was killing me...
What would you do differently?:

Pedal faster!!! I was saving for something; what, I'm not sure...It's a race
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Next time I may forget the socks...I really need to practice transitions...
What would you do differently?:

Learn to ride with my feet on top of my shoes...
Run
  • 32m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran the entire distance...Well, more of a waddle actually...Tried to stretch it out, but my back twinged and my left leg buckled a little
What would you do differently?:

Do more bricks during training.
Post race
Warm down:

Cold towel was great...Walked it off, stretched back and had a couple...I don't really drink beer, but what the hell...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience...

Event comments:

I learned a lot in this race and if I can improve on some little things, I think I can have better performances...Seem to be a little tentative on pushing to much, not sure why...

Zach here.  Glad I saw you this morning at the pool.  Good race Sunday!!  We should work on some transition stuff together sometime.  That and I'll try to let you know when the East Texas Triathlete group goes out to Tyler state park.  You can get some good OWS.  I think I'm going with a group from the Woolie G's tomorrow for a 20 miler if you're interested.  You can check out the Felt DA they have up there, since you were talking about getting a bike of your own.  So what's next on the schedule?  Jefferson, or are you signed up for River Cities"

Great race Mike!  It took me several races to really get a good feel as to how hard to push during each leg.  It's just an experience thing, I guess.  Keep on training.  It's looking good.
