Age Group Rank = 64/73
Pre-race routine:

Woke up ate a cereal bar, went to race. Tried not to throw up with nerves.
Event warmup:

Hung out trying to calm myself down.
Swim
  • 28m 39s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well I was really nervous for the swim because I had never swam this far straight, and had never done an open water swim before. So with all of those factors I was really happy with how my swim went. I estimated that it would take me a bout 30 min since I really havn't been swimming and I did it faster then that. So I was very happy. I pretty much stayed away from a lot of people and swam towards the outside, which caused me to swim a little further and away from the bouys at one point, but the alternative was getting kicked so I was ok with that. Overall I think I did really well on the swim considering I didn't swim much leading up to the race.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more, and more open water stuff.
Transition 1
  • 06m 52s
Comments:

Well I got a little dizzy taking off my wetsuit so I had to kinda chill for a little. I sat down to put my socks and shoes on because I have not tried the whole putting shoes one while riding thing yet. I also was having problems getting on my bike shirt.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster, but I wanted to take it easy but I could have picked up the pace a little.
Bike
  • 1h 36m 51s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 15.79 mile/hr
Comments:

Well I'm still getting into biking so I was comfortable with my pace and time, I got passed a lot but thats ok. I never didn't get up any hills and I never had to stand up to get up the hills so I was happy with that. I probably could have changed gears a little more going down hill but I knew an up hill was coming and my chain almost came off once so I got a little nervous so I stayed mostly in the smaller chain when I knew an up hill was coming right after a downhill.
What would you do differently?:

Overall I was happy with my time I estimated it would take me about 1 hr 30 min. so I was pretty close to that. I just need to get on the bike and log some more hours and longer rides, my back got a little tight.
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

Did ok probably could have gone faster had to go back for my wrist band but other then that I was ok with this.
Run
  • 1h 09m 30s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I was pretty tired running. My first 3 miles I did in 32 min. so I was doing good but the last 3 miles I was tired. My right quad started to tighten up every up hill, and there were a lot, so I wound up walking every uphill after the 3rd mile. It was a hard run course I thought but I finished so thats all that matters.
What would you do differently?:

I ran a lot before the race but didn't do many bricks, I should do more of those my lower back didn't really loosen up until after mile 3 and then my leg started so I was just happy to finish.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and ate.

Event comments:

Great race really enjoyed myself I was just going to finish so I was happy that I did. Only thing wrong I would say was the lack of cloths I wanted to buy some but they didn't have a good selection. Other then that this was a great race and I'm so happy to say I finished a Olympic Tri!

Great job! My buddy had the exact same problem as you in T1, he's convinced he had mild hypothermia. For being new to biking that is a fantastic time. Like you, I was happy to finish my first Olympic, especially on such a challenging course.

Great race. That cold water did a number on all of us. Tough course, well done.
